if you are feeling uninspired, blocked or in a creative rut, what's one thing you could do to try and bring some creativity back into your life? (Check out what this RO.com user did!!) Even in the most creative ways?

i have discovered that from what you guys have said im crative... im not sure how to  harness it though.

Maybe try something new? or challenge myself a bit more to step outsife of my compfrt zone

Splat Art, SERIOUSLY THIS IS THE FUNNEST THING EVER!!! Especially if there is more than one person in the group (aka water balloon art, you fill water balloons up with paint (preferably water based) and you can throw it at a canvas sheet or at each other)

I'd say...set up a pinterest account.  You can find HEAPS of stuff you can bake on there.  And also just lots of DIY stuff to do around the house etc that might get you going.

Have you heard about art and music therapy? How might art or music therapy help in a tough time?

I currently do both! I think it is what has helped me the most with my recovery.

@j95 it is definitely creative! Being able to play an instrument is an incredible skill, but also to play in a group is so awesome!

Yes...I actually considered pursuing a career in Art Therapy before I started my Radiotherapy program (which I have almost finished) and I have been really excited and motivated to head down this route in another 10 years or so (I totally believe in reinventing yourself and can never imagine 1 career for life).  So yeah...will be interesting to see the road I end up travelling.

And...I use art and music therapy during my online psych sessions (drawing and listening to calming music).  With my face-to-face psych I play with play-dough.  Helps relax me.

As an OT student I've heard of both of these and both really interest me, especially music therapy. I think that both could be useful either as a way to distract a person from what is going on in their life, or to help them express how they are feeling.

@_sagira_ i want to know more about what you think! is it helpful ? I'm interested now

@SJG oh...and also pet therapy!  If I did become an art therapist I would want to integrate animals into the sessions as well.  (I have had many scientific conversations with my psych about all this stuff.  :P)  But I like your plans too!!

About using the play dough in my sessions?  I've been seeing my face-to-face psych for over 2 years now and I started up with an online-psych at the beginning of the year (recommended to me by lifeline).  My main goal with the online psych was to develop strategies that would enable me to 'open up' and be more 'vulnerable' in sessions, as I was so aware of what my body was doing and her watching me (although you know...she probably wasn't half the time), but I was altering my behaviour.

My online-psych asked me what would make me feel more comfortable and I told her that I always drew when I spoke to her.  We tried this with my face-to-face one, but I couldn't pick up a pen...it was too much.  Then I read one of the art therapists tumblr posts (that I follow) and she mentioned she used play-dough with clients.  So I asked my face-to-face one if we could try that.  She also gave me a whole bunch of otehr things I could fiddle with, but I stick to the play dough and YES!!...it has helped tremendously!!!  I just knead it in my hands when I am feeling anxious and it gives me something to focus on instead of my body.  🙂
