[CHAT] Pressure in Hobbies

Heya everyone! Sorry this is so late, my face was so full of chocolate I forgot it was Monday! 😛

Tonight's chat is all about the pressures and stress that can be found in hobbies. They can come from parents, coaches, peers, even ourselves too. Sometimes these pressures can make it difficult for us to enjoy doing the things we love.

So join us tonight in an hour and a half at 7:30pmAEST (no more daylight savings!) to talk about emotional abuse in our hobbies and ways that we can cope with them! 😄

I feel the pressure when I video game because I really enjoy it but I'm not that good at it so when people watch me I get a little bit anxious to try to do the best I can.

I also felt this pressure when I used to dance! Ballet, jazz etc. I really loved it and still do but there was a sense of competition and comparing which made me feel pressured

@missep I think we can relate to the sense of competition and comparison in our hobbies. I find this too especially with my photography as I'm in a few photography groups on facebook... And there is level of competition of what gear you have etc which can be off-putting when you don't have much money for lens' and the latest camera body

I've always wanted to try dance, but have been scared about the competition and comparison that I see locally between dancers... And I can't really with my foot anyway..

It's really true, competition and comparison seems to be to some degree, in every hobby. An interesting perspective that I've started to take is to see the competition as something to strive for Smiley Happy So for example if someone did something really impressive or has something that could be used for my hobby then I think about how I can achieve that or work towards that. I'm a goal orientated person so I've been trying to use it in a productive way like this, or else competition can definitely hurt sometimes!

Do you feel pressure in your hobbies? Is it internal or external?

with my horse riding i have both internal and external factors. i so badly want to ride again properly so i pressur emyself alot but am abt more accepting that i prob wont be at the level i once was. my famil have the hgh expectations of my riding too so this ones abit tricky.

with my art- its only internal. my family arent artistic at all so simple things look ok to them but to me it has to be alot better

im my own worst enemy sometimes!
