PLOT TWIST? When has a negative outlook helped...

I'm really interested after tonights GR to talk to a few people about BALANCE and how sometimes being pessimistic or having a negative outlook can help.

I mean we can't all be optimistic ALL THE TIME. (Can we?)

So I just wanted to see if anyone can give me a good story of when they were not thinking positively about something... but a positive came out of it?

FOR EXAMPLE: I have been so terrified about starting new study. I signed up and was totally regretting it. But then this person also studying with me started chatting to me and now we're like best buds. So it was like a nightmare... AND NOW ITS LIKE A DREAM AND STUFF ISNT SO SHITTY

For me atm it's being in hospital. I don't really like it, but it keeps me safe and I also meet some really cool people.

@redhead that's a really good example. sometimes the things we don't like can actually do us good!

I really like this thread! Keeping it balanced is so important.

I think a time where having a bit of a negative attitude (sort of) helps me is when I'm doing a uni assignment. I tend to get a bit stressed out that what I'm doing isn't as good as it could be, which makes me work harder to get a better mark. Sometimes it can be a pretty unhelpful behaviour too, since it can be a bit unrealistic, but I'm getting better at monitoring that 🙂

This is something that happens a lot for me!

It's generally about time. I seem to think I'll run out of time to do something i really want to do, or that something hard will take ages.

And then i get to do the thing I want to do, or the hard thing takes less time.

It's nice to be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks @FootyFan26 and @lanejane for starting up this conversation.

what about like... has anyone ever got lost in a car or during a walk? and you're like NOOOOOOO but then you see something totally amazing or find an amazing place?

or like.... have you ever been full terrified of going to a party or event but then you have the best time ever?
