Tell me three honest things...

Whenever I talk to someone new I always ask them to tell me three honest things about themselves - it doesn't matter what it is, it just has to be real and honest! It can be a thought, a memory, something you like, a fear...

My three honest things are...

  1. I've had a book (An Abundance of Katherines by John Green) sitting on my bedside table for three months now. I keep telling myself i'm going to read it, but I know it wont happen for another few months... or more.
  2. I have a bad habit of listening to gossip... Sometimes it's really hard when you're sitting with people to "block it out". I have to always remind myself not to pay attention to it. We shouldn't judge others just based on someone elses thoughts or experiences!
  3. I still check the wardrobe for the boogeyman sometimes after watching a scary movie Smiley Tongue

Lol my three things will probably be odd mannerisms I have, but here goes anyways:

1. Wherever I sleep, I have to be facing the door, otherwise I have trouble sleeping because I think for some reason if someone comes in during the middle of the night I'll be more likely to detect it

2. I flip the bird at people who cut me off while I'm driving/walking. I used to do it because I thought it was funny but now I can't stop

3. I don't know how to be a consistent reader - I'll make it through 75% of a book in two days and then forget about it for months

@blithe I put a $25.99 phone case in my pocket when I went to grab out my phone to have a look at them together... Didn't realize till I was on the tram home.

@j95 Aww crap, I can totally see how that could happen. It's been my experience that if you go back and tell them what happened and apologise, you can either give it back or pay for it if you meant to buy it. Better than worrying every time you walk by the store!

Oh crap, @j95 did you walk out with something by accident? I've done that at the supermarket before (something was under my bag in the trolley and I didn't notice til I was in the parking lot). And I've walked out of cafes without paying and had to go back to pay! Embarrassing!

1. I tune out, a lot. And by that I mean I will stare at nothing while my mind kind of falters and completely loose track of what's happening or I'll still be half aware but my eyes are unfocused.
2. Compulsive nail-biter right here. Trying to stop it!
3. I have made two other exchange student friends. A few aquantiances and... yeah that's it. But... I made two friends! All on my own! Well, one was kind of with help because of situation but one was definitely all by myself.

@florenceforever

i wonder how that started! do you remember? do you plan to ever get through them? do you collect any other thing or is it just books? questions questions questions…

if i'm at my parents and they aren't around i stay in their bed too. feels like the safest place in the house to me. is there a reason you think you stay there over any other room or bed?

do you play your own songs or other peoples? was there ever a time you used to play for hours on end?

I do plan to get through them one day! I'm very time poor though. I love buying books in the hopes that I will one day get around to reading them. I love to buy second hand books that look like they have character and history.

My bedroom is downstairs and theirs is upstairs. I literally run through the hallways to turn off the lights and dive into their bed. I'm not actually scared, it just makes me feel comfortable 🙂

No, i've never really played in front of anybody. I used to love guitar but now I've grown apart from it. Again it's probably a lack of time thing

@lanejane I'm exactly the same with gossip and overhearing things, especially on public transport. It makes me feel like a spy or something! Haha.

@Meraki I have the same fear about airport scanners! While I've never set one off, I almost always get taken aside to my clothing and bags scanned for suspicious residue. My theory is that I look quiet and unimposing, someone who wouldn't make a scene or refuse to be checked, haha.

1. I can't eat meat that looks like the animal that it resembles, even stuff like meat on the bone (ie. chicken wings, prawns). It really freaks me out and makes me uncomfortable. At a family event not long ago they had a spitroast with an entire lamb on it, I actually started to experience a bit of nausea and stuff when I was looking at it 😞

2. When I get bored I online window-shop. I'll start filling up my cart with things and sometime I almost convinence myself that this time is going to be the actual time that I'm going to buy things... then I see the postage charges and I'm like "yeah, no".

3. I love using peoples names (or names that I give them, haha)! For my closer  friends usually I'll have a few nicknames that I'll cycle through when I talk to them. I always get a bit excited when someone uses my name.

@KitKat

i'm a vegetarian so i completely get the meat thing. have you ever been to thailand or bali? you walk down the street and they have pigs on spits everywhere. its so creepy. even when i did eat meat (like over 10 years ago) i still didn't like seeing where it came from. preferred to just pretend haha.

postage charges are ridiculous. always. i completely agree! especially when an item is a dollar and the postage is $30. why!?!?

i like it when someone i care about uses my name. it feels like they are about to say i love you or something nice haha.

1. I faked nearly all of my learner driving hours (posted this recently but it was the wrong thread)
2. When I was 14 I ran away from home for the night and pulled an all nighter qat Guf, a gaming venue - thinking about that makes me cringe.
3. I love a good shower bath

@lanejane I actually have been to Thailand! And I know exactly what you mean! I was forever having to cross the street to get away from all the cooked bird carcasses they have hanging around from hooks, with the whole neck and everything attached. I also get really antsy when we go to restauraunts that allow people to 'pick out' their fish or crab or whatever, then the waiter goes and catches it, brings it to their table and shows them in a little tray.

@KitKat I'm the complete opposite with names, I hate it. With teachers I always address them as miss or sir and with my friends it's usually a hey! directed towards them.

About the airport thing @Meraki me too!! I'm that super suss person whispering "dont go off dont go off" as I walk through. My fear got worse after I acciendtly had a plastic knife in my carry on, a whole security team searching through ny bag, they could of at least bought me a little excitment and put me on border security or something.

Wonderful idea, I like the way you think. 🙂

1. A memory: when I was about four or five years old, I needed to wear glasses so the optometrist showed me this whole case with about a dozen different frames and he told me to pick the one I wanted. Coincidentally, I happened to pick the only frame that didn't already have the lens fitted. Everybody thought this was little me schemeing to avoid wearing glasses... Really, I just liked the colour of the frame, but I prefer to think that I was actually a clever little kid so I go alone with their story. 😉

2. Something I like: cupping a warm mug of tea in your hands (well, drinking it too). But there's something so healing and peaceful about just holding the cup, no? x)

3. A fear: well, you know at airports how you have those scanner things you have to walk through? I always think they're going to go off when I walk through, even though I know I have nothing on me. It's silly, but I wonder how suspicious I must look...? 😛

(Also, personally, I think An Abundance of Katherines isn't his best book - it's still John Green, but it didn't have that magic spark for me. Still, if you like his style it may still be worth the read 🙂 )

@Meraki I had that fear the first time I went to an airport. And boy did I set it off. 5 minutes later, working with security, we found out that it was my belt that kept on setting it off. I ended up walking through holding up my shorts. Hahaha.

@KitKat I love to window shop online too! Only, I tend not to even want to purchase anything. I tend to think that people are getting really excited over the sale, only for me to put just close down my browser or remover everything. Hahaha. But let's be honest, they probably have it happen all the time. However, there was this one time that what I wanted to buy was finally on sale and I was like sweet the shipping for this site isn't all that expensive, well for this particular item, it was. Needless to say, it stayed in the warehouse.

1. When I was coming back from my weekend at home, we passed lots of farms with baby lambs. Instead of thinking about how cute and adorable they were, I was thinking about all the tasty meat that they could potentially produce.

2. I often laugh at the most innappropriate times during scary movies. I don't know why, but some of the stuff cracks me up!

3. I absolutely hate the taste of eggs, but love egg yolks in soft boiled eggs. I used to have them all the time for Sunday breakfast until dad put his foot down and I wasn't allowed to have them anymore unless I ate the whites. Blerg.

@Meraki

do you still wear glasses with similar frames? its cool you got to pick your own. maybe you were subconsciously being that clever Smiley Tongue

i like to have a cup of something hot when i'm cold, and usually before bed. i have a hot chocolate though because i don't really drink tea or coffee! (sometimes i'll have a chai latte but not often)

it's funny that everyone feels the same about those scanner things at the airport haha. you know you've done nothing wrong but for some reason you're still nervous? it's so weird. have you ever been picked for the random drug or bomb tests afterwards? they have pulled me aside heaps to do random tests on me. i must look really evil or something lol.

(I still haven't read any more of an abundance of katherines. Its just sitting there… waiting…next to my bed… but i'd rather be talking to you guys)
