Dealing with anxiety and not being able to sleep

I have been shaking all day and night and I’ve been on a constant state of sadness. I’ve also been having trouble sleeping at night. It’s hard to fall asleep because my heart beats really fast because of my anxiety attacks. I’ve become really impatient to do anything like meditation or relaxation techniques

Hi @Octavia99,
I'm sorry to hear that, I also had anxiety attacks when I experienced really stressful events. I just wanna say if you are experiencing any stressful events and you would like to tell us, please feel free to do so. We are here listening to you and supporting you.
Also, as @th967 said, squeezing ice will be a good idea to get a sense of control when you have anxiety attacks. Trying to shoot your fingertips or hands with a rubber band might be helpful as well.

Hey @Octavia99,

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing this - it sounds exhausting and very overwhelming. Is there anything that you can think of that has helped you in the past when you have felt like this? If you feel up to it, there are some other things that you could try to ground yourself if you feel like meditation or relaxation techniques are not going to work at the moment. This could include: exercise (especially outside, even just for a few short bursts), typing or writing out your worries to try to externalise them, washing your face with ice cold water or squeezing ice to try to ground yourself, or listening to your favourite music/making playlists. Is there someone you feel comfortable talking with who may be able to help you work through what may be contributing to your anxiety and distress?

I really hope you are able to get some rest.

Take care. We are here for you.

Hiya @Octavia99

I'm sorry to hear about your trouble sleeping- since sleep is important, that must be frustrating for you! If relaxation techniques aren't your thing, fair enough- could you maybe try something that will slow your heart rate another way? Using essential oils? Tiring yourself out with some gentle exercise? Using a weighted blanket can help fight anxiety and make you feel secure too.

Hi @Octavia99

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Insomnia and anxiety sucks, I've been there before as well. The meditation and relaxation techniques certainly do not work for everyone all the time. I know what helped me with being able to sleep was staying away from screens close to bed time or at the very least using a blue light filter on your phone. I found exercise helped me as well!

Like @Hannah-RO said, speaking to someone about the anxiety and sadness can be a great first step which you have already taken here so good on you! I want to second that we are all here for you as well Smiley Happy

I really do hope you feel better soon!

Hey @Octavia99,

This all sounds really exhausting, I'm sorry you're going through all these feelings. Being in a constant state of sadness must be so draining, especially if you're not sleeping well. Did you manage to get any sleep last night?

I'm wondering if there is anything you've found helpful in managing these feelings? Sometimes people find going to their GP a good place to start with talking about anxiety, is that something you've tried or might want to try?

We're here for you Heart
