Im so fucking angry

everytime i try to get help i get knocked back 3 services in a row dont have time for and im so fucking over it consdiering those three services are the ones headspace recommended to me between appointments.

im so angry and i cant calm down about it because its just not fair they obviously need to fucking fix something because this happens every single time. they dont even try to help they just tell me they are busy and to try somewhere else - i have tried everywhere else and they all say the same.

why bother getting help im better off dead.

I reckon if you took the time to write a letter they should read it and take it seriously. Whether they are able to do anything about it asap is pribably up to a lot of things that all are backed by funding $$$ but if you express your concern and maybe other people too, they might be inclined to push it to higher people or however they do things

You could ask your tutor to help with the layout of a letter. Its pretty easy once you get the hang of it
Or if your tafe/uni has a library they might have academic services where they help you with writing:)

Hey @j95

How about you give these guys a call or email.

Their whole reason for exisiting is to advocate for and represent young people. I agree that writing your local MP is great but these guys often have things already happening that you can then add your voice to.

They are a good option also because I think it's not just a mental health issue it's often the experience young people have when they are looking for all sorts of help. Mental health, housing, financial, employment. Services are supposed to help you when you ring, whether you fit their criteria or not. When they don't, they're not doing what they are supposed to. The more young people that speak out, about not only how few services there are but also the many barriers they encounter when trying to get help, the better.

Just an idea. 🙂

Hey @j95 - i'd like to back up NigioC's idea. YaVic would be a great place to talk to about the lack of services for young people in Victoria. If you were up for chatting with them they are advocating to government all the time about the issues facing young people including the lack of services.

Also, we can help you write the letter here too if you like. I think you should just tell your story about being turned away from services (you've had a really rough trot with it I know) and about how you've gotten through so much on your own - you've figured out you need help you've beaten the stigma of MH & seeking help which is farther than so many get - and you want help but you just keep hitting a brick wall... i could be a powerful letter....

@Sophie-RO Hey thanks!

I'll have a look at YaVic, I'm looking at their website at the moment. I might give them a call for some help.

I will give the letter a shot - not sure where to start but I'll have a go and post on here if I need help.

hey @j95

i'm sorry to hear you are experiencing that. what services are you trying to get in touch with (if you dont mind me asking) and are you accessing online, over the phone or face to face?

i would definitley be giving headspace a call and letting them know what's happening.

i hope that you have been able to get some sleep last night and are able to wake up today feeling a little bit better. sleep always helps me to clear my head. can you please check in at some time today (friday) to let me know if you are okay?

remember there is always lifeline or suicide call back service that you can contact if you are in an emergency.

Hey @j95

Sorry to hear you're having such a tough time connecting with a service. You have every right to be angry - seeking help and being turned away is incredibly frustrating and defeating. But don't stop reaching out and looking for the help you deserve. You will get through this and you are worth the effort it may take.

I want to reiterate what @lanejane has already said: please remember that lifeline or suicide call back service are always there if you are in an emergency.

How are you feeling today? We're thinking of you, dude.

@lanejane @Billy-RO I'm ok, was obviously just super upset because I get referred to these places who refuse to help me everytime I contact them and then when in the rare chance I get through all they want to do is tell me how me contacting them is unhelpful because I know they can't help me. Shouldn't they just go their job?? Obviously if I'm attempting to get in touch with them so often and after so much trouble doing it, they need to do something and sort their shit out and Headspace needs to refer me to somebody who can actually do their job. I try so hard but it's not good enough, when I've gotten through to these people we've organised when I can talk to them, the time, day and who, so I do the right thing, follow what they say, only to be told sorry that person isn't here, come back in a couple days. I was told I could go on web counselling for kids helpline on a Thursday night to talk to particular person - so I log in on a Thursday night and asks for this person.. but apparently its my fault that they didn't answer when asked to talk to me... So I have to go without because somebody is completely fucking useless at their job, how is that fair??
It's not always an emergency it's just having somebody to talk through things with - it always makes me feel even worse when I'm knocked back - 3 services in the one night is not fair.

I'm fine. I just wish something could be done, not just for me but other people have to deal with this too.. It was eheadspace (both phone & online) and kids helpline (by online and then had to wait 30 mins on the phone)

Thanks guys 🐻🐻🐻

Your anger is understandable @j95 - it really sucks that mental health services are so badly underfunded in Australia that there sometimes isn't enough room to help people who are really struggling. It's definitely something I'd love to see change in my lifetime, and hopefully not too far into it! Hang in there mate, if you have to go on waiting lists or something it's worth it to get the help you deserve. And a huge high five for really trying to find yourself some pro support. You play such a proactive role in your own recovery and wellbeing and I really admire that.

@ElleBelle Thanks! I do try...

I just wish something could be done, anything, not just for me but there must be so many people out there who cant get they help they need either. The mental health system is failing so many people but then when you're at your absolute worst, people ask why you didn't seek help sooner.... or everyone is so shocked by the suicide statistics, maybe something to do with the lack of helpful support out there. This is obviously something I feel pretty passionate about not only because of my struggles but my best friends brother comitted suicide last year, where was the help for him, he clearly needed it and tried his hardest to get it..

You're absolutely right @j95 - the services that are out there work really hard and they do their best in 99% of cases, but if they don't have the resources they can't help everyone. Hey, there's nothing like a good ol' fashioned letter writing to your local MP 🙂

Anyway, I just wanted to make the point that most of the time it's not about you personally, or that people don't want to help you. Sometimes it's just that they can't. Doesn't make it any less frustrating though.

@ElleBelle I'm really not intelligent enough to write letters that make sense but thanks haha...

It can feel its a personal thing sometimes especially when it can happen so many times...

@j95 you are so intelligent enough to write letters!

You dont have to be crazy well spoken or written or have the fancy lingo to write to your local government. You represent the community and the community talks just like (and is) your everyday person! I reckon you could write a good letter to your local MP about mental health services in your area. They might never know theres a problem until someone tells em
