Losing Willpower

TW: Suicidal thoughts

I'm losing the will to continue. I don't know why I should even bother. My grades have dropped so low I can't even go to uni anymore. I can't find any reason to seriously continue to live, when I know I won't get anywhere in life.

Don't feel obliged to respond, this is more of a dump than anything.

Hey @Aluzar

I hope you're doing better and that you're safe. It must be hard for you right now especially since schooling was probably quite interrupted because of covid and stuff. Please update us when you can. We're all here for you.

Like the others have said, don't be too stressed about your ATAR and things. It might sound super corny to say coz everyone says it. I used to be like oh but everyonnee says that. The thing is, as soon as I went to uni, I realised it was true. There are so many things you can do after school whether it's uni or not. I hope you can gain some peace of mind from this. Heart

Hey @Aluzar

I really hope you are doing well and that you are bouncing back. Just because your grades are dropping, DOES NOT mean you can't get into university. I got into university WITHOUT my ATAR because of early entry programs. On top of that Uni is no the be-all, end-all. There is TAFE, Year 13, and apprenticeships and more. I promise you things will get better, and you just have to keep pushing.

I hope you figure things out.

Hi @Aluzar ,

I'm really sorry to hear that you're in a dark place at the moment. It sounds like things are feeling pretty tough for you right now, I just wanted to ask if you're feeling safe at the moment?

When we're in the midst of feeling really low, it can sometimes feel like there's no hope for the future - but  there's so many paths you can take in life, and  a lot of ways to get into uni if that's what you're wanting. From your post history, you're in Year 12 at the moment, is that right? Have you had any support from your school counsellor at all?

Hi @Janine-RO

Thanks for the reply. Yesterday was a bad day for me, so I'm sorry for the late message. Currently I feel very safe thank you.

I am currently in Year 12 yes, and I have had support from the school counsellor though as of now it feels insufficient. A lot of stress has been placed upon my life recently, and I feel I need some outside help but my parents are unwilling to help.

Other pathways exist to uni, that is true but I am unsure of my life path and if I would have the funds to pursue a degree should I want one. Life feels very confused and scary at the moment.

hello @Aluzar and welcome
im sorry to hear its so tough for you right now. Can you ask your teachers (or the teachers of the subjects your most struggling with) for some extra help at breaks or after school at all?

Im sorry your parents aren't willing to help, I can relate as my parent is like that as well. it does make things harder. Im wondering though because of your age, would you be willing to speak to your gp on your own about accessing a mental health care plan? your gp doesn't have to tell your parents anything and actually goes against patient confidentiality (unless your under 16) so what you tell them is between yourself and the dr.
If your not working, you can also apply for centrelink so will give you some of your own money and freedom to do what you like with it.

Hey @Aluzar ,

I'm sorry to hear that yesterday was a bad day, but it's really good to hear that you're feeling safe 🙂

I'm wondering if you've ever tried one of the online counselling options like eHeadspace

or Kids Helpline web chat? - they can be good options, if you feel like you need someone to talk to but you're not sure if your parents will be supportive. Your local Headspace centre could also be a good place to check out - it's confidential, and free of charge. They could be good extra supports to have on your side .

I really feel for you being in year 12 with everything going on with covid, it must have been a crazily challenging time for you, and I think it's totally understandable to feel like life is pretty confused and scary at the moment. Do you have any ideas of what you might like to study at uni?

Welcome back!
