COVID 19 - 2.0
Hey Guys,
Being a victorian must be really difficult right now.. similar to other states who are easing back into restrictions. I wanted to start a thread about covid 19 2.0 isolation/lockdown. Many people are in the same boat and we all need to support each other. I've put below some questions, answer as little or as may as you'd like. 🙂
What are some positives about the isolation? (e.g - more down time, more time for self care, school from home ect.)
What are things what help you while in isolation? (e.g - A TV series, bath bomb, food, self care product, music style ect.)
What is one thing you may be worried about during isolation? (e.g - missing friends, unable to play sport, online schooling ect.)
Add a fun GIF, meme or joke to lift everyones spirits.

In my opinion, there are more negatives than positives when the topic is about isolation.
That's very fair @Aldema - it's a really hard time right now. Something that helps me is trying to focus on the positives, even if they're small!
One positive thing about isolation for me is being able to spend time on my hobbies and with my pet puppy. What's one positive thing for you? 😊
I think the care is better than the treatment. So we should follow the SOPs provided by goverment to protect ourselves against covid-19.

I have been really enjoying doing my art and i've said for years that I would love to pursue my art further - I usually work two jobs and study so having the opportunity to do none of that and not leave home has given me the perfect opportunity to do so! Super super exciting!
What are things what help you while in isolation? (e.g - A TV series, bath bomb, food, self care product, music style ect.)
Definitely music, tv series and spending time outside! - I play a lot of music whilst painting and it really puts my mind at ease

I had big plans of spending the second half of this year filled with activities (work and volunteer related) to build my resume and help me get into masters 2021 however none of that has come to fruition given the circumstances so I am a little worried my now lack of experience may jeopardise my chances at masters
I look forward to hearing everyone else answers!!
I was the same - was planning for lots of activities so I can get an early entry to uni for next year. Unfortunately that won't be happening.
Thats a really cool talent. I have always wanted to be good at art, such a soothing activity.
I'm glad my thread has been interesting to you. 🙂
@lemurien Interesting that you mention telehealth- I think in some ways I actually prefer taking phone calls for some appointments! Partly because I don't feel the stress of having to turn up but also I feel like there being less social signals allows me to open up a bit more!
@Wolfie_ @LeapofFaith It's also awesome that so many people are getting back into art! And when it comes to feeling like you're missing opportunities you're certainly not alone... I was going to go on exchange this time this year and that got knocked off in March!
What are some positives about the isolation?
No more long commutes, I can wake up 5 minutes before my classes start, more time for hobbies, and online open book exams woohoo!! I can also call my family more often now that everyone is working from home.
What are things what help you while in isolation?
Okay, this is odd but I love looking out my window. Going out for walks, crocheting and volunteering are fun as well! At once of the places I volunteer for, I get to send cards and letters and all sorts of crafts to people living in isolation, and it always makes me happy.
What is one thing you may be worried about during isolation?
Not getting to see my family any time soon. I'm not worried, it's just not fun. And cancelling plans with friends. I'm a bit worried for my friend who lives in the US as well, I hope she can continue her studies and graduate on time.
Add a fun GIF, meme or joke to lift everyones spirits.
I'll tell you a coronavirus joke now, but you’ll have to wait two weeks to see if you got it.
Hey everyone! Thanks so much for making this thread @LeapofFaith, its great to be able to chat about what's going on and hopefully lift some spirits and get some self-care ideas too Love to hear about people gardening, dancing and gaming!
Here is a link to the Ask A Pro we had recently where we spoke to Dr Joe about social isolation, looking after ourselves and finding hope. This is one of the gems from the chat:
"If we can accept the changes, the challenges, it is easier to live with. We will come out of this in time even if it doesn’t feel like it at times. We have to adapt. Humans always adapt and try to be grateful and positive if we can."
What are some positives about the isolation?
One positive for me is that not commuting to work means that it's not too dark to go for a walk when I finish work! Usually by the time I get home it's too dark and cold, but going for a walk has been a nice way to end my working from home days.
What are things what help you while in isolation?
I try to frame things at the moment as "What can I do?" Rather than "What can't I do?" This has been so helpful for me and led me to do things like fostering kittens, doing online trainings, catching up with friends who live interstate online, and a LOT of hair masks, - things I probably wouldn't have done otherwise! As well as not being too hard on myself, we are all going through something really awful, it's important to have chill days.
What is one thing you may be worried about during isolation?
I think I am worried about what the transition back to normal life will look like, and that it may happen too fast and not properly acknowledge what we've all been through. I hope that in the process of returning to regularity there is time to grieve and reflect.
Here is a nice cat doing some V important nail care.
Great idea @LeapofFaith! It can be so easy to feel overwhelmed with everything that is going on in the world, and I know I have been a bit down thinking 'why Victoria' and feeling a bit jealous of other states who's restrictions have eased.
What are some positives about the isolation?
Spending more quality time with my family. Because we can't see anyone else, we have made an effort to do fun things together... like themed dinner parties, more board games, and just more discussions!
I also have had more time to focus and reflect on my career and what I really want to do with my life. It really puts things into perspective when you can't leave your house! Now I've enrolled in a new uni course and I can't wait to get started next week!
What are things what help you while in isolation?
Sticking to a normal routine (as much as possible)! The first round of lockdown I found myself not being very productive because I would sleep in and stay up late because of the lack of other things I had going on. This time I am focusing on sticking to the same bed and wake up time, making daily to-do lists and keeping everything in order. It makes me feel more organized and productive in such a crazy time.
What is one thing you may be worried about during isolation?
I agree with @Hannah-RO! Now that we have been doing this for so long, I am quite nervous to go back to normal life. It is weird to think it might be over as quickly as it began and I will take normal life for granted again without learning from this experience!
@marlee that is so cool that you've enrolled in a new course! What is it? (If you don't mind sharing!)
Also themed dinner parties sound amaze
I like what you and @LeapofFaith are saying about routine, I think I am getting better at that and it's making things a bit more normal and manageable.
Thinking of you Victorians
What are some positives about the isolation?
While I'm not locking down yet one of the things I really enjoyed about lockdown was being able to lounge around in hoodies and trakkies and not put on makeup. It did wonders for my skin also being able to cook myself yummy food and save money!
What are things what help you while in isolation?
Definitely crafting! I also watched Netflix movies like Studio Ghibli with my dad which was super fun! My friend also just bought me a puzzle so I'm super keen to get started on that
What is one thing you may be worried about during isolation?
I do worry about people's mental health going down again and having to get used to only online conversations with friends. I think that's going to be the hardest part. Also having to constantly re-organise my future plans for travel and studying!
@Hannah-RO- fostering kittens, that's amazing! Honestly if I had a kitten in my arms right now I would cry in bliss. I don't think I'd be allowed any in my current rental place though. @November13, your joke made me laugh 😄
here in Vic, someone made a facebook event that went viral, about going onto your front porch and screaming to release your frustration about lockdown/COVID. I went outside at the designated time saying to myself I'll scream if someone else does - and they did! Had a good cathartic shout with one of my neighbours, no idea who it was 😄 But basically I think that sums up everyone's feelings right now, we all just want to scream. Sometimes I feel I simply cannot cope, but other times I'm okay.
Positives about the isolation - Telehealth appointments are so convenient and I hope they continue even when we are allowed to show up in person again. Also, my lockdown boredom drove me to start knitting and making art, which are becoming really valuable parts of my life.
Things that help me during isolation - learning to let go of my expectations of myself. This has been so difficult, and is definitely not as simple as just saying/thinking it. I have had to figure out what I can reasonably expect from myself, in a way that still lets me accomplish the essential obligations I have, and also let go of guilt, comparing myself to others, etc... I'm still working on it.
One worry - My biggest worry is that this is a sign of worse things to come.
Meme/gif -
Fellow Victorian!!!
I find keeping a routine the most important part especially making my bed.
ohh, what types of games of fun ideas are you doing I could use some extra ideas.
That's so exciting, good luck with your course.
@LeapofFaith Yes! I agree, making my bed just makes me feel accomplished in the morning.
It has been hard to find new games but we are mostly sticking with the classics of UNO, blackjack (with making dinner/cleaning up for whoever loses lol) and we love Articulate, which is where you have to make your partner guess the word on your card through describing it without saying the actual word. It can get pretty competitive in my house
Thank you @Hannah-RO! I am starting a health science course! During this lockdown I think I have decided to move away from my psychology study and into the nutrition/dietetics area, as I think that is where my real passion lies. This lockdown has given me plenty of time to think about it
Those games are so good! I might try articulate. It's a good way to make isolation fun.
Thanks for making this thread @LeapofFaith!
What are some positives about the isolation?
Hopefullyyyy, it gets these numbers going down and we can start living our lives closer to how we want to soon enough! I've got my fingers crossed that people start taking social distancing and self isolation more seriously from now on, so that we don't have to go through this all again.
What are things what help you while in isolation?
My garden! I've been spending my days tidying it up, getting it ready for spring. And the lawn's a nice space to dance in
What is one thing you may be worried about during isolation?
I'm a little worried that this is gonna keep going on into next year, when I plan to be studying...
These are such good ideas! Cleaning is always a good way to feel put together. I love a good dance space as well!
This is a great thread @LeapofFaith! I don't live in Victoria but it's good to look for some positives in a time like this.
What are some positives about the isolation?
More time to spend with family and on hobbies. No commuting, not having to go in person to some of my appointments. More time to spend in bed.
What are things what help you while in isolation?
I tried out a lot of new skincare products now that I am spending more time at home. I've also been keeping a journal and playing lots of video games.
What are things what help you while in isolation?
A lot of things, mostly potential negative effects for my family and friends and on the economy.
Journaling is so good for mental health! Self-care is amazing too!
