Juggling work

Hey everyone!

Does anyone get nervous around work responsibilities? Studying is important to me so I only work a certain number of hours.. my manager always seems to make some sort of error with the rostering.. and I often have to confront her. Usually she tries to force me to fix it, even if it's her fault but I stand my ground.. It makes me feel sick to have to confront her so often.. and she also expects me to call, not email which makes me feel even worse about it..

Any tips or strategies that someone uses?

Thanks!

Hey everyone! Thanks for your responses ☺

I know this sounds super negative and like the worst situation ever, but it's a small store! No other supervisors or managers.. one other person feels similar to me but they are focused on themselves, whenever I say how I feel she always one ups me.

I think it's best if I leave.. the environment has gone down south and I don't really feel respected.. @letitgo I always text unless they call me but I'm not nervous about any other phone calls with anyone. I just don't think she is approachable.. @RevzZ I've been there the longest now! So it's really difficult.. it's not the first time this has happened among other things.. I think it's just ruined now and it's a shame because I liked working there.

I guess, how do I manage it until I find another job? I suppose uni will cool down after 4 weeks and I won't be so worried about my schedule! I might try and get rid of some of my shifts if I can't find another job before then.. I guess if I can't do that, I have to use my time wisely which can be hard without motivation.. 😩

Hmm the fact that's it's a small store does make it more complicated. And that's a pity about the co-worker who feels the same not being a source of support for you.

Part of managing it until you can get less shifts/another job could be around rewarding yourself after a shift and planning that, so that you have something to look forward to. What do you reckon @T4ils?

The first thing that comes to mind is report your manager for being a bad manager! My sister is experiencing the same thing and its soo not okay to put you in that kind of position.

Otherwise, I think setting a strict schedule would help, and adhere to it! organise your time so you have room for rest and leisure as well, as much as you can. Also, trying to get study done while youre at uni, or at library, might help maximise productivity ^^ i also do a lot of reading while I travel, so that can cut down on time as well.

Sucks that your manager is behaving that way @T4ils, is there a co-worker or another manager you could chat to about the roster/schedule?

My bosses have always been pretty flexible about this sort of thing, so I've not had to deal with it, but I imagine it would be rather stressful. Could you text instead of call sometimes?

Hey @T4ils, hope you're doing ok!

Building on what @letitgo said, talking to another coworker could definitely help. Perhaps you've got supervisors there as well? Or perhaps people who've been working there for a while? They might have more experience with the manager so they could help you out in that regard. What do you reckon?

Welcome back!
