Weekly Wellbeing: Food!

Food is super important - it provides nourishment for the body, mind, and soul. I also happen to be quite hungry right now, so why not make this week's Weekly Wellbeing all about food? Smiley Tongue

Here are a few questions to reflect on:

  • What are some foods which help boost your mood?
  • Do you have any simple recipes which are great for when time/motivation are running low?
  • Are there any new foods you'd like to try? Why not pick up something different next time you're at the supermarket!

  • What are some foods which help boost your mood?

I would say anything sweet, such as cheese cake, lemon tart, choc mousse.

  • Do you have any simple recipes which are great for when time/motivation are running low?

No. I like eating without cooking by myself. Usually, I watch others making something on YouTube instead.

  • Are there any new foods you'd like to try? Why not pick up something different next time you're at the supermarket!

I may gonna try some seafood I've never tasted before.

Great question!!

What are some foods which help boost your mood?
- Fruit (watermelon, strawberries, grapes)
- Not a food, but WATER. Gotta keep hydrated!

Do you have any simple recipes which are great for when time/motivation are running low?
- a simple salad of pre-washed lettuce leaves, cherry tomatoes, a can of tuna, and any other vegetables you have lying around. Dressed with lemon and salt. Simple but delicious.

Are there any new foods you'd like to try?
- Korean fried cheese looks good (but unhealthy 😐 )
- I'd like to try lobster. See whether its worth the money.
- I hope to one day try American candy (Swedish fish, candy corn etc.)

What are some foods which help boost your mood?

Fruit really helps boost my mood and gives me energy. I absolutely love raspberries and oranges.

Do you have any simple recipes which are great for when time/motivation are running low?

When I don't have heaps of time to cook dinner I love making a simple gnocchi. You cook the gnocchi then add roasted pumpkin, spinach leaves, chicken or tofu, roasted cherry tomatoes, pine nuts and a tomato pesto sauce. It's really easy to make and tastes yum as.

Are there any new foods you'd like to try? Why not pick up something different next time you're at the supermarket!

I would really like to try different types of seafood. I never really liked oysters when I was younger but want to try them again now I am older to see if I like them or not.

What are some foods which help boost your mood?
Well, I've almost gain 6kg because of quarantine, so I am dieting right now. But I found that there are a lot of snacks with low calories at woolies!!! Those snacks can absolutely boost my mood!!

Do you have any simple recipes which are great for when time/motivation are running low?
This is a dessert you can have a try when you are losing weight: oats+soy milk powder + several banana slices +yogurt (not too thick) + oats + soy milk powder + banana slices + yogurt + soy milk powder. Put them in the bowl or box in order and put in the fridge for one night. Before you eat it, just adding more soy milk powder on the top of it!

Are there any new foods you'd like to try? Why not pick up something different next time you're at the supermarket!
Well my aim is to try all the snacks with low calories in supermarket 😄

What are some foods which help boost your mood?
- Fruit popsicles! I had one yesterday.
- Frozen yoghurt.
- Cotton candy.
- Marshmallows.
- Cold water infusions.
- Lemonade.
- Licorice.
- Corn on the cob because it reminds me of childhood holidays.

Do you have any simple recipes which are great for when time/motivation are running low?
I've made pasta with sauce in a microwave. If I'm home alone and only cooking for myself, sometimes I microwave rice. Salads are also quick and easy!

@November13  I have also tried vegan prawns! I've also tried vegan fish fillets. They were a bit expensive but unbelievably, they looked and tasted almost exactly like real fish. I want to try more vegan products. I ate vegan bacon and pepperoni recently.
Something I saw online recently was kelp noodles. I'd like to try it one day but I'm not sure where to get it here.

@WheresMySquishy Yes the fish fillets are the best! Vegan foods at Asian shops are a bit cheaper if you haven't checked them out Smiley Tongue And I just did a quick google search on kelp noodles, it seems like the super lo-cal noodles at Wollies is the exact same thing, I'm not sure though. But if it's the same thing then I would definitely recommend it!

What are some foods which help boost your mood?

  • Bananas
  • Mangoes
  • Oats
  • Anything with peanut butter

Do you have any simple recipes which are great for when time/motivation are running low?

  • Chia pudding is my favourite breakfast and super convenient:
    • Mix 3 tablespoons chia seeds with 1 cup milk and refrigerate overnight.
    • In the morning, top your chia budding with any of your favourite toppings - mine include nuts, frozen berries and a chopped banana!

Are there any new foods you'd like to try? Why not pick up something different next time you're at the supermarket!

  • I'm super intrigued by vegan mince so would love to try that!
  • I also want to try making lentil burger patties Smiley Happy

What are some foods which help boost your mood?

Anything sweet, but if I wanted to be a little bit healthier I'll have dark chocolate. Still sweet but I feel less guilty eating it Smiley Tongue

Do you have any simple recipes which are great for when time/motivation are running low?

My go-to when I'm not feeling like cooking is making instant ramen and adding in other ingredients like egg, sliced meat, veggies, and cheese (sounds weird to add cheese but tastes so good).

Are there any new foods you'd like to try? Why not pick up something different next time you're at the supermarket!

I want to try more vegan products like vegan prawn and vegan chicken nuggets.

Hi everyone, can you tell me how to stop eating sweets?

Hey @VirginiaWH

Just wanted to jump in here and say that it's ok to eat sweets, and it's important to not feel bad for eating foods you enjoy. I think something this thread has highlighted is that eating healthy is all about balance Smiley Happy

  • What are some foods which help boost your mood?

I love fruit! It's so delicious, provides great energy and is easy to digest! Chocolate is also an excellent mood lifter. Chocolate covered strawberries seems like the perfect answer Smiley Happy

  • Do you have any simple recipes which are great for when time/motivation are running low?

I love caprese salad. In mine I put chopped tomato, bocconcini, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper, garlic and spinach! Its so fresh and perfect for summer.

  • Are there any new foods you'd like to try? Why not pick up something different next time you're at the supermarket!

I've always wanted to try pumpkin pie, but never tried making it or seen it sold anywhere.

BIG YUMS ON THIS THREAD

What are some foods which help boost your mood?

I think for me in terms of mood boosting, I like foods that feel fresh and healthy like sushi or rice paper rolls.

Do you have any simple recipes which are great for when time/motivation are running low?

I will not lie, I often order food when I am time and motivation poor! But I also love a simple pasta or a V comforting and simple packet ramen.

Are there any new foods you'd like to try? Why not pick up something different next time you're at the supermarket!

I'm pretty keen to try some vegan prawns @November13 ! And I love Miso paste so much @Tay100 ! I recently started experimenting with polenta which has been fun, and I've been making pies too, keen to try some different pastries for pies or making my own pastry.

Well this thread has got my mouth watering!!

What are some foods which help boost your mood?

I've recently been trying to come up with healthy uni snacks and have found a new love for mini fruit salads with watermelon, strawberries and blueberries! They defs boost me up and make me feel nice and healthy! Although a good old dose of chocolate also does the trick!

Do you have any simple recipes which are great for when time/motivation are running low?

I'm also like @Hannah-RO and guilty for ordering food when I'm motivation poor.. but if I'm just time poor I tried this new spinich, pumpkin and walnut pasta the other day and can certainly say I'll be making it again!! Was super quick and super delicious!!

Are there any new foods you'd like to try? Why not pick up something different next time you're at the supermarket!

I can't really think of anything off the top of my head although I did just buy a couple new stir fry sauces to try out!

Also.. I have a question which I'm pretty sure is a super dumb question so I give you all permission to laugh.. but.. is ramen just 2min noodles? Cause I feel like I've heard the word before but not exactly sure and it seems to be everyones go to lol

A very good and important question @MB95 ! The instant ramen I like is like 2 min noodles, in that you cook dry noodles in boiling water (for like 5 min) with a flavour packet and some of those tiny dried vegetable bits but there are lots of different kinds Heart

Ah thanks @Hannah-RO! I thought it might have been but just needed that confirmation lol

Also @Janine-RO - I'm totally there with you on the roast veggies and having plenty for left over salads! Defs one of my favourite go to's! 😍

Loving all of these quick food tips!

@Maybel9595  I had always wanted to try pumpkin pie too, and finally made some a few years ago! I've also been experimenting with sweet potato pie, my partner is American and so I get to join in Thanksgiving festivities now which is super fun! I used this recipe which was super good.

Pretty time consuming and I added way more spices than they said but the Americans who ate it gave it the thumbs up 😄

I've been doing heaps of tray roasted veggies lately, they take a while to cook but are super easy to prepare- I really like roasted cauliflower, sweet potato, red capsicum, spanish onion etc, I try and make heaps so that I can also have them for lunch in a salad. I also really like making rice paper rolls when it gets a bit warmer.

What are some foods which help boost your mood?

Chocolate anything.

Do you have any simple recipes which are great for when time/motivation are running low?

I have recently discovered packaged noodles that you can literally just throw in a wok or similar with some vegetables and soy sauce. They are so good.

Are there any new foods you'd like to try? Why not pick up something different next time you're at the supermarket!

I've heard so much about buffalo cauliflower wings. I want to try making some at some point when I can.

Also I'd like to make some proper lasagne at some point.

Okay this is hands down my all time favourite topic to think about!

  • What are some foods which help boost your mood? It depends on how I'm feeling but iced coffee, chocolate and soup are my favs

  • Do you have any simple recipes which are great for when time/motivation are running low? Apart from my trusty cereal, one pot noodle is super easy and comforting. Add noodles, veg and protein into boiling water, add a stock cube. Done! Eat it straight from the pot if that helps Smiley Tongue

  • Are there any new foods you'd like to try? Why not pick up something different next time you're at the supermarket! I can't think of anything right now but I got vegan prawns last time and it was superb Smiley LOL

Maybe pasta and ramen? Or just a coffee!
  • Are there any new foods you'd like to try? Why not pick up something different next time you're at the supermarket!
Really wanna buy some miso paste and experiment with that!
