Wow- you guys have so many great ways of looking after yourself to stay balanced! I'll definitely keep some of them in mind when i feel overwhelmed next (the pizza one real soon hopefully) Smiley Very Happy

so our next question for tonight is:

Has there been a time in your life where you’ve felt you’ve taken on too many responsibilities, and how did you overcome this?

Not that I can remember. Although when I get overwhelmed I kind of shut down and/or interally scream for a few seconds.

Gosh how much can one nose hold??? (bloody flu :()

hey @N1ghtW1ng - one of the ways i've noticed you cope with stressful times is by coming onto reach out!

Okay, so taking on too much was kinda my middle name a few years back! 😞

I really struggled with balancing all my commitments  and giving myself good self-care.

For me it was stripping it all back to the bare metal, and working back up again - putting the real important things in my life back, and DELIBERATELY taking on TOO LITTLE! and learning to be content with that has been a godsend/lifesaver!

I've got it down pat & I'm much cooler, calmer and happier 😄 Heart

and actually get much MORE done, incidentally, and do a MUCH better job too!?!?

Yup! Earlier this year I was trying to juggle 40hours of work a week plus all of my uni and it was just WAY to much for me!! had me in tears.

I took a step back and said okay you are not happy and you need to do something about it, so i cut back my hours, took some me time like everything we have just discussed and re focused!!

When I was doing my electrical apprenticeship, which I loved, the TAFE work was really hard so I was juggling trying to study for that (and exams!!) as well as go to work every single day, go to footy training, gigs, seeing people and it just overwhelmed me.
I still feel like that but is less intense because my landscaping apprenticeship is less academically challenging but still the same work hours, very early until late. Particularly hard for both trades during the summer, you'd start super early until it got dark so over 12 - 13 hours or even more sometimes!

Right now I have more responsibilities than I have had before, but I don't think it is too much.  Keeping a diary and getting up earlier seems to help, but I think it just takes practice to cut out procrastination

To be honest not really.  I struggle to do homework since I have a negative attitude towards most classes (except sport and woodwork!) and in turn that gives me no motivation to do it until the last minute or sometimes not at all.  In the end I leave myself with a whole lot of work that I don't do even the day before it's due and get all stressed and worried the hour before the lesson is on.  I usually get out of it by making excuses which is not the right thing to do but I just can't get myself to to the work.

So no, I don't really give myself too many responsibilities,  I just let the ones I have pile up until I just can't do them.

@bessie94 bessie im in a similar situation to you. How many hours did you cut down to?

I was working betwen 5-7 days a week (3 jobs), whilst juggling full time uni, social life (aint sacrificing that for no one :P), me time, gym commitments and other volunteer stuff I do.

Lets just say......i dont think im going to get the 80% marks  I need to get into honours.

I have cut down work a little bit which is much better, but I have sortof come to terms with the fact that maybe I will have to go to a less prestigious university and even do postgrad away from home in another state.

^ as much as the above sucks..........i love seeign my friends, i love going out I love going on holidays etc......just too many good expereinces that the money provides me 😛 as well as work expereince!

15 hours is what I work now! its hard cause you need the money but also have to focus on uni! @Troy

its really hard to find that BALANCE (see what i did there) between money and study!

Asking for help/delegating some of your tasks onto others is so important to try help yourself stay cool calm and collected instead of becoming a stress head especially in terms of work.

Look after yourself, because if you’re stressing out, it will show in everything you do!

What's great about you @bessie94 is that you have that initiative and motivation to change and improve on things where as I don't and try to roll with it.

Not that that works.

@FootyFan26 aw thanks 🙂 but i am not perfect at it, it took many tears for me to realise that I had to sacrifice something cause there just wasn't enough hours in the day to get everything done

originally posted on 01-06-2015 9:07 PM

@bessie94 as I said you're much better at it than me and I don't think I'll get better at it anytime soon either. I just lack the motivation and initiative probably due to negative thinking and anger.

originally posted on 01-06-2015 9:08 PM

@FootyFan26 yeah but i am a negative thinker too and i stress out too much! but small steps can help!

originally posted on 01-06-2015 9:11 PM

Sounds like we have all had times where we have expeirenced a lack of balance but have found awesome ways to fix it!!

Next question:

What are small steps that you can take each day to make sure you keep your life on track and balanced?

for me, planning and preperation is key!!
