Hey guys! Hope you're all well on this lovely Monday night! 🙂

To kick us off for the evening, here's the first question:

What does 'productivity' mean to you?

Hello!

What does 'productivity' mean to you?

To me, productivity means doing something that works towards a goal I have previously set out to obtain, e.g. to study a certain thing, to read a certain amount of my book, to clean a certain area of my house, etc. It doesn't alawys mean actual completion of the goal, but rather working up to completing that goal Smiley Happy

Heya @Chloee! That's a really good point about how just because we may not achieve a certain goal doesn't mean that the effort we put in wasn't us being productive 🙂

@lokifish I think that's so important because sometimes I plan to do more than I actually can, and I can feel like a failure and stress out. But then I remember that I still did quite a lot of work leading towards the completion of what I planned, and that helps me to feel better Smiley Happy

@Ben-RO Yes that's right! Sometimes I plan on making the time to watch a movie at home the next day, and when I do finish the movie and tick it off my to-watch list, I feel very productive even though it has nothing to do with working, studying, or doing housework! Smiley LOL

Best productivity tips please! 🙂

What does 'productivity' mean to you?

Hmmm… I guess I'd say productivity to me means being able to achieve the things we want/need to do within a reasonable time frame, and (hopefully) without too much stress!

What does 'productivity' mean to you?

Making the time to do the stuff you plan to do. To me it's the action part of planning.

@StarLord hey! Thanks for joining in 🙂 hopefully there'll be plenty of tips shared tonight. Also it's funny that you mention the relationship between productivity and planning - there's a question coming up about that 😛

Seeing as planning has come up...

Is planning a neccesity for good time management? Why/why not?

@StarLord all good! There's no such thing as too many questions during GRs haha - if you've got one to share then fire away! (But yeah, check out the builders threads and you'll find questions :))

I think so, why? Well I think it helps you decide what's important and also to notice when you did a thing that you have decided is important too! It's amazing how much we can forget we have done for ourselves, planning a little bit doesn't just help you think about what you want to do, it helps you notice and celebrate what you have already done - I'd note that this is definitely something that i have decided for myself, it might not be something everybody decides to do!

How do I make the most of my time?

I am pretty nerdy, I think about all the things I do and put them in 5 lists.

1. Done.

2. Urgent, important

3. Not Urgent, Important

4. Urgent, Not Important

5. Not Urgent Not Important.

I never do the stuff in 5 😛

@Ben-RO do you organise that in a table or just a list?

lokifish
lokifishPosted 31-10-2016 08:35 PM

@Ben-RO list 4 and 5 are the same? or is that a typo 😛 (love the idea though, I'll have to try it!)

I also love that idea @Ben-RO. I also agree completely about how having a schedule too regimented, can lead to its own problems @lokifish

@FootyFan26 hey!!! I use a thing called Trello, which i guess is kind of like a table... but also kind of like a list! Basically there's 5 lists all side by side in the app and you can move things between the lists just by dragging and dropping.

Here's a thing that kind of explains where the list idea comes from.

@Ben-RO the name Trello makes me think of jello, as in the American term for jelly. And now I really want dessert... hahah this was not a productive post 😛 😛

Ben-RO
Ben-ROPosted 31-10-2016 08:47 PM

mmmmm dessert.

I put things like that on my list, because they help me grow and show myself a little love and compassion, so it counts as productivity for me @lokifish!

@Randomness yeah I often wish we could change how much time we have in a day. On super slow days we could speed time up and then when we have a million things to do time could be practically frozen. We should get a team of scientists onto that 😛

Why does time 'fly by' when I have so much to do?

I don't know but it sucks when you have an in-class test Smiley Happy.  Maybe because when you're bored you look at the clock more and that makes you perceive time as being slower.

@Ben-RO My organisational and commitment skills aren't great so I don't use this often but this is how it looks for me:
