[CHAT] We are family

They say blood is thicker than water, and that you cant choose your family. This week we’re getting together to talk about the uniqueness of families in this day and age and to share your stories good, bad or embarrassing about your family. With school and uni holidays just beginning, perhaps you’re already a little overwhelmed by the family..

Love them or hate them, we all have family. They can drive us crazy on those days when we want to sleep in, but dad wants to mow the lawn. But they can also be the ones that are around every single day no matter what, to help you and support you. The age old idea of a nuclear family with a mum, dad and two kids is out the door. These days we have foster children, adopted children; we have family friends that live with us and friends who have turned into family. So what we want to talk about on Monday is how unique and different your family is and why it’s so important to value them- no matter how much they drive you crazy.

This Monday come join myself and @SJG  to talk about your family and what makes them unique. Learn tips on how to deal with tricky situations or ways to re-spark that lost family spirit.

Hey, hey everyone!!! Hope everyone is swell tonight 🙂

First question for the night is ….Given that a nuclear family is considered a mother a father, and two children, how does yours differ from this?

My family is exactly that. 110% nuclear (although, I'm pretty sure my mother labels the pet's as children at times). As much as I wish I had more siblings, I have a really awesome relationship with my bro, so that makes up for it, haha

Sounds like we have a bunch of different family types!

Given these differences what makes your family special to you?

I know that my family unit with mum was very very special to me - she meant the world to me. I knew that she was all I had but, having said that, she was far more than I deserved. Given that it was just us, we grew super close and were best friends - she was my mum, dad and sister. She was ALWAYS there for me. Through thick and thin.

Both my sisters have children and are raising them in the single parent category. Because of this, I have had a lot of input into them being raised. And I offer to do things that normal people wouldn't, like feed the baby if formula fed, even changing their stinky bums! I've been an aunt for almost half my life and wouldn't have it any other way.

@EloiseRose My extended family used to live all over Australia, in WA, NSW, VIC, NT and QLD but now we mostly live in QLD with my aunt still in NSW and my other aunt in WA and my other aunt in NT. Well I guess we are still pretty spread out 😛

@stonepixie that must be pretty cool, being an aunt.

@stonepixie

Thats so good to hear you wouldnt have it anyother way 🙂

Thats so good you have been able to be apart of thier lives from the very begining- even if you have been changing smelly bums and cleaning up baby formula vom ( a unique type of vomit) ah

@EloiseRose the formula only available through prescriptions has its own special smell. They also give it to premmies.

Given these differences what makes your family special to you?
This is a pretty self-centered, kind of ignorant(maybe) thought but I kind of believed that my family was always together. Sort of, immune, for lack of a better word, against the bad stuff. My parents always together. My brother and my sister and I with the perfect relationship except that it's far from it. But those precious moments with my siblings and giving cuddles and kisses to my parents make my family special. My parents will always care about me and I'll always have that moment when my brother told me about his secret girlfriend.

Hahaha. Nope! Youngest of 3 girls. Oh the joys!

To save on confusion tonight, I think I might change the colour of my posts so people can tell the difference between @SJG and I.

@stonepixie smart 🙂 And oh lucky you! I'll admit I have been the annoying younger sibling too AND also the bossy older sibling. At least I get to be both!
