[CHAT] We like to party

Moderator @FItzChivalry writes:

Partying is a word that gets most people excited at the first thought of it. The idea of partying is pretty awesome. Get a bunch of mates, music, a few drinks and dance the night away. I’ve spent many years doing just that, and I’ve had some awesome nights because of it, made a lot of friends and a lot of memories. But partying does have its dark side.

darth

I remember my first real house party, when we were all about 16 years old. I was the only one who really had an older brother, and he was “cool” enough to buy alcohol for the night. My best friend’s mum had even gone away for the weekend so we had a free house. The invites went out, and the party was gonna be awesome. It was like a scene out of one of those American college movies where they are running around the school throwing flyers at people. A few hours into the party it was clear that this definitely was going to be the best party ever. However things very quickly soured.

Unbeknownst to the organizers, one girl had brought herself a bottle of pretty hard liquor and decided it would be a great idea to polish it off herself. Next thing you know she’s in hospital, mums were called, tears were shed and it was definitely not the party to end all parties. That was our first taste of how quickly things could head south (the girl was fine in the end, but it was still a bit shock for us all).

partyon

So - partying can be awesome, and the majority of the time it is, but young people, alcohol and maybe even drugs is the perfect combination for problems. It happens from time to time. So how do we still have a good time without being too irresponsible about it?

Join us on Monday 17th Nov at 8pm AEST to discuss your party experiences and to talk about safety party tips.

What kind of safe guards or rules do you and your mates put in place to make sure any night out goes smoothly? How can you avoid nights going sour?

whenever people start going home i always make them message me when they are home!!

I always message my boyfriend when i get home and vise versa

because we know each other pretty well we know when people are probably going to hard and slow them down with water or greasy food

If people are going to have a big one someone genreally stays more sober

@EloiseRose I wish my group of friends was responsible enough to have someone stay sober on a big night out! Sounds like an awesome idea

Okay guys,

Have you ever had to help friends out at a party or on a night out? How did you help them?

Oh man, ALL the time!

I've had:

- The upset drunk

- The 'first time' drunk

- The 'first time' high

- The can't stop throwing up drunk

- The drank WAY too much drunk

I've taken people home, comforted them, talked for HOURS with them, held their hair back whilst they've thrown up, gotten them water and wet face washers, called my parents, called THEIR parents, taken them home, called ambulances (not fun)

Just constant stuff like that. Putting their safety first is my number one concern.

hahaha yes so true guys!

Okay now If you could tell your ‘hung over or tired self’ one trick or tip to avoid being hung over what is it?

For me it would be DRINK WATER!! If you don't drink water while you're out at least drink a bunch when you get home and then first thing in the morning!

I agree with you @FItzChivalry  - WATER

My older sister once told me she has a powerade after she finishes drinking but before she goes to sleep and she never gets hung over. I tried it once after having 18 SHOTS - and it worked!

I also make sure I have absolutely nothing on the next day 😛

Haha don't worry @FItzChivalry, I didn't.

I actually faint frequently on flights! I've taken 40 flights this year and have fainted on four of them. So I don't think it was alcohol related!

Although I have also been in the situation a couple of times where I have really needed help, and I've had lots of people there for me, which I've appreciated so much!

Too many times...

One time one of my mates had way to much grog and that's when the night turned sour, he was throwing up everywhere, we made sure he had some water and some food.

He also lost his phone at the party so everyone at the end of the party searched for the phone. He refused to leave until he found it, we stayed there at the party helping clean up for another 2 hours while he still looked for his phone.

We ended up driving him home after he passed out...

It was a nightmare but he got home safe.

Welcome back!
