Everyone is creative, right?
To me being creative is being artistic, musical; it is seeing things in an innovative and original way. By that definition I am not creative, in fact I was once asked not to display my year eight art because my painting was ‘too hard to understand’. Just so you know we had to draw something that made us happy- I painted a canvas blue and said ‘water’ made me happy, I thought A+ for effort they thought not!
Anyway, high school grudges aside people use the word creative in relation to me in… creative ways, such as “what a creative car park!” or “that’s a creative way of cooking pasta”. Most of the time I think they might be making fun of my obscure way of getting things done, but may I remind you they are the ones who used the word “creative” not me. I am jealous of anyone who can draw more than a lop sided love heart and a daisy flower. I wish when I got bored I could just start drawing, or playing an instrument…
But can creativity be more than just the ability to paint or play an instrument? I believe some people express creativity through their energy or in the way they think and behave, and by that definition maybe we can all be creative.

I know firsthand that @SJG is creative in the most obvious sense; she has mentioned it on the forums before and I have seen her work, in fact I own a piece. So on Monday join myself and @SJG to see how one very uncreative person (myself) and one very creative person @SJG, navigate the world of creativity.
Whether you can draw, cook, organise well, tell jokes, write well, or even park your car well, Join us on Monday at 8pm.
Quite a few people have trouble following my lines of thought, @SJG. It is certainly not straight, I'm not even sure if it is zig-zagged. I just know that it is all over the place, but makes perfect sense to me.
Very True, anyone can be creative!
while my friends see me as creative because im artsie, i think that being creative simply means to be thinking about something in a way not usually associated with that topic. it may be to help you learn it for a test or a new way of approaching an old problem.
also, i think that all forms of art and music are creative. unless there is a certain aspect in like a marking criteria, then no form of art should be called 'wrong'. art in all forms is mearly an expression of a person's thoughts/feelings and should be embraced for the courage needed to communicate this
in a simple sense- this convosation ( both topic, answers and computer innovation) is creative!
@stonepixie ice-cream flavours! Did you guys disagree on one or something? 😛 No...jokes aside...I hope you guys are still friends.
@SJG Ohhh...around the corner from eachother. Well that's really nice!!! 🙂
@delicatedreamer yes...and birthday cakes! They're always fun too.
Do you think that there might be conventional ways to be creative and then there might be more obscure ways? What's an example of each? (what about instagram, journalling or fashion - where do these things fit? Are they creative?)
i completetly think that there are conventional ways to be creative which have be expressed tonight i reckon... the idea of art, music, dance, design all of that cool stuff.
Obscure ways... welll my parking abilities are pretty special and the way i clean and tidy apparently is creative because i try and hide things haha!! i think problem solving is creative but in the obscure category

I think that these things can all be super creative, but also the majority are just copies or originals.. sorry to be the critic!
@delicatedreamer and @_sagira_
Thanks for jumping on !!! great ideas
How would you define a creative person? What sorts of things do they do?
I think creative people are good at arty, and making things look pretty or innoative. I think they do things like study design, or arty, or are musical or are into performing!! And of course wear really cool trendy clothes...
Hey all, welcome! I hope you’re ready for another tonights GR sesh with myself and the amazing @SJG
Topic of the week is (drum rollllll) BEING CREATIVE!
As per usual, we do have forum guidelines so please play by the rules. And always make sure you take care of yourself, if you’re feeling upset at all tonight please check out the emergency help tab in the top right hand corner.
Ready, set, go (as inspired by the commonwealth games)
First question...
How would you define a creative person? What sorts of things do they do?
Hey guys! I completely forgot but I'm here now!
How would you define a creative person? What sorts of things do they do?
A creative person is someone who uses their imagination to create all sorts of amazing, interesting and unique ideas. They break past the 'laws' and invent new, different ways of conventional things. They draw pictures, write stories, act, dance, compose, perform, code, sew, cook and many more things. And let's not forget Legos!
Do you think that there might be conventional ways to be creative and then there might be more obscure ways? What's an example of each? (what about instagram, journalling or fashion - where do these things fit? Are they creative?)
Conventional ways of creativity would be artsy, musical, sewing such as pictures, writing, dance, music performing and composing and sewing. But there are the obscure ways like coding is creative, as in computers. Instagram is a fun way for people to share their creative ideas and get inspiration. They are ALL creative!
Do you consider yourself creative or not-creative?? What are the things that have happened to make you think that?
I think of myself as a creative person because I take things that are around me and create different scenarios to fit around me. For example the Avatar universe (Avatar: The Last Airbender (not the movie!!)) I choose a type of bending and create all these characters based around that universe so I can, roleplay, I guess with myself. It is so much fun! I also write a lot and find inspiration everywhere. Really, everyone has their own brand of creativity that everyone is creative, it's just not always the same as everyone elses.
Whats the most creative thing you have ever done? Or do regularly? Story time!
I dunno to be honest. I've created a couple of universes. If I really want to get into I could say that I'm not really creative. I just take what I see and enjoy around me and mold it to fit myself into that reality. I could say that the most creative thing I've ever done was create a universe for one of my stories but you could argue it's the same as some other story except changed a bit... I'm not really that creative in my own opinion.
Have you heard about art and music therapy? How might art or music therapy help in a tough time?
I have, it's using art and/or music as a form of therapy to help deal with illnesses and such. They have a calming effect that draws people in better than being talked to or talking to someone.
Yay! Caught up now.
I also recently got the Lego Movie Game, which is why I remembered Legos. While they aren't as creative as they used to be, and by that I am referring to instructions, they are still so much fun to put together to create Quinjets and motorcycles and jeeps... yay!
@N1ghtW1ng, the local musseum not long ago had a lego exhibition! It was awesome!
@N1ghtW1ng I disagree...you're definitely creative with all your answers to the questions and your activities!
@dreamcatcher playing musical instruments is so much fun! I've played the clarinet, bass clarinet, piano and also a little bit of drums too. Also guitar. Recently, I stopped doing piano with the grading and such but it is still nice to just play. My favourite song would have to be Coda from Criminal Minds. Same name as the episode. It's a piano piece and it's beautiful.
Have you heard about art and music therapy? How might art or music therapy help in a tough time?
Yes I have heard of art therapy... Not music therapy though it sounds pretty cool.
As a part of my recovery from self-harm (a few years ago now) I voluntarily went to art therapy and it really helped.
Well art and music are about emotions or moods so it can help by changing what is characterised with a certain mood; so instead of harmful or depressing images with certain moods the art or music therapy could give them better images to use to cope with the "Dark Cloud"
Hi All,
I would define a creative person to be someone who tries to do things in a different manner to others, or may actually have a hobby that is defined as creative (it doesn't matter if they are good or bad at it).
They themselves try to the best of their ability to think outside the square.
