LIVE GR: Moving Out of Home (11th of November 7:30pm)
Moving out of home can be an exciting time. It can potentially enable us to experience a new culture, spend more time with friends, partners or extended family, be more closer to work or study or give us a sense of freedom and independence.
But it can also be challenging. Who knew there was so much to learn? Suddenly, you might have to learn new skills you've never had to use before. Other times, we might not get along with members of our new household or find ourselves struggling to pay the bills. What if we end up missing our old home?
So join us this Wednesday, the 11th of November at 7:30pm, where we'll be discussing all the ins and outs of moving out of home.
Can't wait to see you all then! 🙂
If at all you find this conversation distressing or you feel like you need to talk to someone about an issue then it's time to get some help! You can call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800 or use their webchat and email services found on their respective sites. The links can be found here. If you are new here then welcome! Have a quick peek at our community guidelines. You can find them here!
I think you're ready when you feel like you are and have some things set up for yourself, like a source of income, a safe place to live, some good supports. Not everyone has the luxury of all that when they move out. Some people choose to move out and some don't have much of a choice
(If accommodation is an issue for you, you are not alone. There are supports available)
@Lost_Space_Explorer5 thanks so much for sharing those links! Sometimes it's hard to know where to go -- especially since moving out is such a huge transitional period.
Hi all! 🙂
How do you know when you're ready to move out of home? Why do some people move out earlier than others?
I think you're ready to move out of home when you feel confident being able to manage everyday situations on your own and you can't think of any big reasons to continue staying at home. If you don't want to leave home, the transition will probably be harder. I think that some people move out earlier than others if they have the funds and means to do so, or they decide to become closer to work or study. It's hard to move out of home if you have health problems or need to care for loved ones who are living with you.
I think it's different for everyone regarding when they feel like they should move out! Some people feel they need to move out when they don't want to be under the prying eyes of their parents all the time, while others move out when they feel old enough and mature enough. Whatever the reason, the urge to move out comes at different times for everyone. Or it could be that people have no choice but to move out. For example , I am potentially starting university interstate next year, which would require me to move out
I hope everything goes well with the university @panda_6940! It sounds like a major change.
Thanks @WheresMySquishy ! It'll be a big change, but I'll try my best to adapt!
