Uni Student Support Squad
Otherwise known as USSS! I'm back at uni this week, and I know some of you are too so let's commiserate over assignment deadlines, share studying tips and practice deep breathing together!
Yes! @lokifish. I feel like going back is going to be really weird since I haven't been back for months. It's like I'm afraid of what's going to happen in the future and all the stress I'm going to experience. Kudos on getting the timetable though haha. I've procrastinated on obtaining mine atm.
@N1ghtW1ng Ours has a "timetable" which you need to look up yourself on the site. Tutorials themselves can only be signed up for when uni has actually started. Which is kinda annoying because we don't get a set time to make plans for until term actually starts
Just checked my email and I think my university is ignoring them. Guess I'll have to go in and talk to them now...
Typo has such great stuff @N1ghtW1ng!!
I drove to uni today (scary!) and purchased a couple of my textbooks (so expensive!) There was so muc oncstruction work going on around campus and it made the drive so much more stressful. As I was leaving I had to pull into a park and cry for a bit before I could keep going. I made it back to my house though, and that's the important thing.
I don't think I'll be driving to uni again. Public transport from now on!
@N1ghtW1ng I looooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeee shopping for new stationary and books for uni. I make front pages for my books and binders with scrapbooking paper. My sister came to me the other day and she said that my books always look good so she wanted help with hers. However, no uni any more so no need for stationary shopping
@letitgo I know right? I kind of wanted to buy a laptop case there too, since mine has been lost but I'll just wait and see, I might not need it. (I might find a better one somewhere else :P)
Oh textbooks are the worst 😛 Always so expensive. It's awesome that you made it back home. Construction work can be so stressful when you're driving! I hope it's so not bad when I drive to uni. I have a really late night (7pm) and I don't want to take public transport. I don't live in the best area for that 😛
My units still haven't come out with their outlines, and while the textbooks where mentioned somewhere, I really want the dumb outlines to come out now. I mean, there's a little over two weeks until I start.
@N1ghtW1ng I think uni's really need to get their stuff together when it comes to unit guides/outlines! Mine aren't out yet either... *sighs*
And yeah, I'd definitely advise you to drive if you're finishing at 7pm, much better to be safe than sorry! Unfortunately, you can't be too careful in this climate.
Sooo I've decided I want to do my Cert III in early childhood education (because I'm not really enjoying working in aged care). But now I don't know whether to do it part-time, and keep doing nursing part-time at uni (which would total four days a week + placement) or to take a semester off uni and do TAFE full-time (three days a week + placement). I mean just doing TAFE sounds like it'd be easier but also I don't want to take time off uni
I'm leaning towards taking the semester off after thinking about the pros and cons. It means I'll take longer to get my degree (and part of me worries I won't finish it at all), but I'll be qualified quicker (so I can get out of aged care more quickly) and it'll give me something else to focus on. I want to end up in midwifery/maternal and child health nursing so getting some more experience with little kids is obviously ideal haha. Now to just deal with telling people
@lokifish it's a very brave decision you've made. Good luck telling people, remember that it's about what you think is best for you and not what they think you should do.
That's such a touch decision Lokifish! If it were me, I would also consider how far though my current degree I was. I like to finish things that I've started, so if I only had a couple of semesters left I would finish that degree before taking on something else. That way I would have something that I've completed before I start something else. It might be important to consider that there is a chance that some of your uni topics could be recognised as part of your TAFE course. If you can, I'd also have a chat with your degree coordinator or careers counsellor to get their advice; it's part of their job!
Good luck with it all
or focus on your goals and decide where you want to go with each qualification.
And tafe can be just as hard, the assignments may be different but the workload is still intense (im only just starting uni and completed tafe so i dont really know tbh but tafe is still hard and less structured than uni and its really pratical)
do what you feel will be best for you and also take into account what you would be able to handle mental health wise.
I'm at Trade School today and I want to go home, I can't read any of this work I have no idea what's going in
A sibling visit sounds like a great break from uni work. Maybe you could try writing some questions you have about the assignment and then getting the answers to the questions?
