Culture and Imposter Syndrome

Just wanted to send my love out to anyone who experiences imposter syndrome when trying to connect to their culture 💜 It can be difficult feeling "enough", especially when you may not look, speak, or communicate the same way as others who share your culture.

As a Singaporean Australian who is very white passing and doesn't know Mandarin, I find it really hard to fit into Chinese and multicultural spaces. However, I find a lot of joy and confidence in myself when sharing my culture with others through food and special events/occasions! This helps me feel connected and validated in my identity, and I take a lot of pride in my knowledge and how I explain the significance to my friends and loved ones. When I'm feeling disconnected, I make lists and collages of the things I love about my culture and the way I take part in it, and why it's important to me. It helps when I see how many things I can come up with, as I often get lost in the way my imposter syndrome spirals.

What does everyone do to feel connected when you're feeling this way?
