[CHAT] Healthy Eating Aug 13
Healthy eating is relevant to all of us and not only does it effect our physical health, but our mental health too. Our diets are made up of a variety of nutrients, so knowing what is healthy and what isn't can be pretty hard to navigate. But if we have the knowledge, we have the power! The power to make healthy choices that is
Join us on Monday the 13th of August at 7:30 PM AEST to have a chat about what healthy eating is and how we can make healthy choices for ourselves. If you're interested in doing some research beforehand check out the information here! This fact sheet outlines the macro nutrients in food, and how we use them in our bodies.
Hi everyone! I'm excited to hear everyones perspective on healthy eating
Hey everyone! Tonight is all about how to eat well without resorting to kale smoothies and pouring brussel sprouts on our cereal 😛

And now for tonight's first question:
What do you think healthy eating is? Do you think eating the odd snack snack (chips, ice cream) is still considered healthy eating?
Sorry I'm late all! I had a thing on 🙂
What do you think healthy eating is? Do you think eating one snack (chips, ice cream) is still considered healthy eating?
Everyone has awesome answers I love @Birdeye's response about how much you are eating 🙂
@missep @lokifish they are great ideas! I tend to eat out of boredom at times 😕 so I'll try that! 🙂
@scared01 but boredom eating is all about that naughty sweet stuff is it not 😛
What are the biggest barriers or challenges of eating healthy for you?
temptation... I'm so bad, if I see a special I usually buy it... I get carried away too easily. But I'm learning to restrain myself haha
Is healthy eating boring?
yes and no, I think it can be boring if you let it but you can make it fun. I like to make faces and shapes out of my food as I serve it so it looks more appetising 😛
Awesome everyone, and for our last question:
What are your favourite go-to healthy meals?
(I can't wait to read this one, I need more recipes!)
my favourite go to meal, well it isn’t a meal but smoothies are very filling and good for you !! i loveeee banana smoothies
salads are also delicious and you can add anything to them 🙂
hmm recipies...
grilled chicken salad wraps, spaghetti bolognaise with added vegies, wholemeal/zucchini pasta, wholemeal pasta lasagne are all really good options. also Quiches and omletes are pretty easy and healthy to make too and are versatile so can put whatever flavours you like!
is healthy eating boring ?
i feel like it can be boring but if you try and make it fun and change up the meals you eat then it can be quite interesting!
Great answers so far guys! Here is the next question:
3. Is healthy eating boring?
So, the thing is, I actually kind of prefer bland food over taste explosions. In my experience, a lot of healthy food has always just been too full of unfamiliar flavour for me, or it's simply flavours and textures that I don't like.
I think there's a time where I would have said it was boring, but I think that's because I didn't really think about it.
Is healthy eating boring?
What's boring is being stuck in a hospital bed because you've had a heart attack from eating too much junk food... it's important to take a long term view of things
Besides it doesn't have to be boring! You can always combine naughty stuff and healthy stuff - putting some chocolate chips in a trail mix of nuts, putting some extra soy sauce on your stir fried veggies etc. 😄
I don't think so! I think just making things that you like but just healthier versions of it!
🙂
I agree with @missep, I don't think healthy eating is boring either. There are plenty of creative and fun ways of going about making healthy foods
What are your favourite go-to healthy meals?
When I need something really quick I like to make kimchi fried rice with tuna 🙂 It has a strong taste so maybe not everyones cup of tea! But all I do is combine some cooked rice, canned tuna and kimchi in a fry pan and cook them together for a little while and its all done. The rice is a good source of carbohydrates for energy, the tuna provides protein and healthy fats and the kimchi gives some extra veggies and flavour as well as being a probiotic.
Another quick meal I love for lunch is a chicken wrap! I get a chicken schnitzel from the deli and cook it up and put it in a wrap with loads of veggies and a bit of tzatziki.
For more thought out meals I usually make big pasta dishes with wholegrain or lentil pasta (but sometimes normal pasta as well!) and simmer them for a long time 🙂
What are your favourite go-to healthy meals?
As a healthy breakfast I like to do oatmeal with soy milk, chia seeds, raisins and maple syrup.
Or scrambled eggs on wholegrain toast with spinach.
I also like to meal prep in advance little freezer bags of green juice with apple, pear, banana, kale, spinach and celery.
For dinner I like to make one pot pastas and put a bunch of different veggies in it like chopped up or grated (grated means you can barely taste it!) zucchini, carrot, mushrooms etc.
I also really like soup because you can get a lot of veggies in and it's nice and light. I do eat this with bread though haha bread is my vice and I can eat a whole baguette to myself so I have to make sure I eat it in moderation.
What are your favourite go-to healthy meals
I'm vegetarian (and also semi-dairy free because of health reasons) so a lot of my dishes are traditional meat dishes with lentils, mushrooms etc. as replacements 🙂
Spaghetti bolognese, soups, vegetable mornays, apricot "chicken", curried vegetarian sausages and stir fries are all my go tos 😄
Curries (tumeric, cumin, chilli base) with lots of veggies and then lentils or chickpeas, tacos with refried black beans (new favourite thing to make!) guacamole and pico de gallo salsa, pasta with lentil bolognese, pizzas with all the veggies and random rice dishes with veggies and beans 😄
