Following through on our resolutions
As 2016 draws to a close, a new year is fast approaching.
(awww yeah!)
Part of the new year is making resolutions. Whether it's to exercise more, get started on that novel or story you're writing or something else, resolutions can be hard to follow through on.
Join us next Monday, 19th at 8pm AEDT where, we'll be talking about how to get started on any changes that you might like to make, either now or in the new year, and make them stick.
@May_ netball is awesome!!!!!!!!
Umm @Ben-RO I still never achieved my goal of doing a half marathon (21km) in 90 minutes 😞 Last year I always said I'd achieve that goal first, but I lost interest in running this year, but maybe the longer goal is what I need and I'll aim to not "hit the wall" aka run out of carbohydrate fuels
Me on long distance rides @loves netball
What will your resolutions be for 2017?
@loves netball that's really awesome! 🙂
What will your resolutions be for 2017?
- To save a certain amount of money
- To balance work/uni/life (totes not a SMART goal)
- To get HDs in my psych subjects at uni
- To continue using my bullet journal for things that help me with positivity (Eg thankful for lists)
- To make more time for other people (friends, family, etc)
- To consume less
Hey @loves netball, thats a great resolution! I hope we can help you work towards that here on Reachout! We will be your cheer squad!!
Also running a marathon is epic!! I remember you talked about it a few months ago I think, under 90 minutes as well! Even being in a place where you can contemplate and set such a goal is pretty amazing!
Sorry if we've covered this already but - what is a resolution? Is it something we decided that we're going to do for every day of the year?
@Stealth_ninja Resolution sounds like it could be more of an end result rather than daily progression. Like how you can change from Santa's naughty list to nice in the week before Christmas . Though progression could definitely help I guess?
My other resolution and fingers crossed I succeed, is to stop attempting X
Have I set unrealistic resolutions? - Yes definitely. I think we all have. To spin it to a positive though, we learn from our mistakes and it helps us practice goal setting and resilience and learn how to set more realistic goals.
What are my resolutions for 2017?
I actually haven't made any specific ones yet. I'm probably jumping into stuff that's been talked about earlier, but a psychologist youtuber I like watching says she doesn't set new year resolutions and doesn't believe in them because they can be big and vague and lofty and we inevitably fall short and feel bad about ourselves. I can definitely relate to that and I try not to make big resolutions these days either. That isn't to say that we can't set goals or aim for things. We absolutely should. Something she suggested last year which I like is setting weekly goals or something like that which works for you.
Omg HEY @Randomness
What you said about resolutions really resonates with me!! I think that's why I set goals rather than confine myself to a year - especially because sometimes things don't work out and they get delayed etc or life just gets in the way!
NEXT QUESTION
What things can you put in place to help you achieve your resolutions or goals?
What things can you put in place to help you achieve your resolutions or goals?
Invent a magic wand?
Serious answers now...
What things can you put in place to help you achieve your resolutions or goals?
- Set reasonable realistic goals
- Break bigger goals down into smaller tasks and work on 1 at a time
- Reward yourself for achieving said small goals
- Think about why you're doing what you're doing and maybe even write it down somewhere and stick it up
- Be kind to yourself
- Get others in on it as support and motivation
If I say I'm not going to attempt X anymore than I won't full stop; I may do something else slightly less destructive though.
How to run a marathon - might need a slight training plan, but one that can cater for setbacks and deloading (rest weeks) and I might want to start training now. Will need to include speed training and consider a running or athletics club (anxiety increasing at the thought)
LAST QUESTION OF THE NIGHT
What can you do if you find that you're struggling to achieve your resolutions?
