Hand care, skin care, health care, what about self care?

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag, drifting through the wind? How about a house of cards, one blow from caving in? Thanks to Katy Perry, we’re all aware that feeling like that isn’t exactly the greatest. Luckily, we can help you find some ways to unleash your inner firework.

We’re talking about self-care, which is exactly what it sounds like – any activity that you can do to take care of yourself. What would be the point of that? I don’t have time in my busy schedule for that! I can hear the protests already. Believe us when we tell you that self-care can leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated and the positive effects are too many to list here.

So how do you go about this self-care thing?

Sometimes you just have to…

I think doing something super passive like lying down and listening to music can be good if you don't have the energy for something more involved. I made a playlist called 'chill out bro' for times like that, and I can just turn it on and stare at the ceiling for a while.

Cool idea @roseisnotaplant and I love the name of that playlist. I've just called mine "Comfort Songs"

What do you do, or what can you do, when you don't have the energy to self-care?

Great question. I think involving other people in our self-care can be a great motivation - it can be something simple like meeting a friend for coffee 🙂 Also perhaps having a set time each day dedicated to self-care, so that it becomes a habit and thus takes less energy

For me, this is when I do the basics - so eating, showering and sleeping. I know I have to do them, so I manage to push through and find the energy for them.

I agree I make myself do the basics.

When I'm at my best, the whole day is planned around the run hahaha

And yes I do feel guilty @Ben-RO. And I'm taking the hint and gonna go because I hate being somewhere when I'm not welcome

That's so important @j95 to physically take care of ourselves when we're not feeling up to self-care. Sometimes it helps us to feel better too.

I think that's a helpful approach @Alison5. when we don't have much energy, it can feel like we're in "survival mode" and the basics are what we need to do to get by, but even doing those are an act of self-care, a way to affirm that we can keep going, by getting out of bed, or eating or anything else

Hey everyone!

What is your understanding of self care?

I think of self-care as things we do to keep ourselves safe, happy and healthy. To me it's about picking yourself up when you're in a rough patch and also trying to prevent those struggles happening in the first place 🙂
