Self Care

There is often times where we need to take time out and look after ourself. Sometimes it can be hard to know what to do to look after ourself, we can be stuck for ideas on how we can be nice to ourself.

Many times I've found when I've been told to do something nice for myself I sit there and think "what am I supposed to do?". It's different for everyone and I'm wondering what other people do.

What is one nice thing that you have done for yourself today?

(If you're unsure take a look at what other people have said and try and do somehting similar for yourself)

I'll start, I lit my lavender candle put some calming music on and played mahjong before doing some study

@sagira.. omg I feel so sorry for you, I hear 3 or 4 dogs in my neighbourhood but I am a person who can easily wake up and go to sleep - I let nothing mess with my sleep lol I can sleep anywhere at anytime as long a there is a bed lol 😄

@Shadow.. I'm craving some chai latte now.. yummmm

Today after a long night of dancing in super heels decided to stay home and rest 🙂 also cleaned the house, kinda gives me a great sense of calm 🙂

@Sagira: There hasn't been much luck finding a place in my area... Might just see if I can find a dvd or a book, or just find a website... XD

I started a scarf this morning, which I spent about 1/2 an hour on before doing something else 🙂

@Bee that's a shame! It actually a 20 min drive to the yoga I go too. But it is so worth it I don't mind!! Hopefully something will come up.
A scarf...nice!

@ruenhonx Yeah...it's annoying. My psych said it's a fairly moderate case of PTSD. I'm always on edge from years and years of being interrupted during my sleep. So the slightest sound wakes me up instantly. I'm working on it. 😉
I love cleaning the house, it's so invigorating.

WELL...I'm not sure how I'm going to tackle today as I have to finish an essay, but I will try to fit some 'me time' in there.

@Sagira; Yeah, I'll have to ask my PDH teacher from last year, she said she found a good place in town, so I'll ask her when I next see her 🙂

@fosterthepeople: It doesn't have to be what you've done, you can write some ideas you've done. I thought to keep it more updates we could write what we've done for ourselves recently 🙂 Love the ideas too!

These are great guys! Loving what we've done 🙂

Recently I have listened to my body and not pushed myself too far - like I usually do.
Over the last weekend I did a scarf up, and finished my book. And last night I had an early night as I was do drained of energy 🙂

This thread really made me think (thanks Bee). I've got a lot of room for improvement on the self-care front.. I've got little kids so it can be hard to get much peace and/or quiet which probably only adds to my stress (at times anyway).

I get a lot of sleep ins thanks to my partner - so that's probably my favourite & most helpful self-care tip. Sleep.. when I can get it! 😄

@AllyEm: I can see how it can be stressful with young children, I'm halfway through my crt2 in childcare, and work with a bunch of children once a fortnight.... Sleep is a great way of self care, without enough sleep we only end up more tired and less able to tackle everyday tasks. 🙂

@Dilz: Identifying how stressed you are is a great start Dilz, It can also be effective to see what is stressing you, and try to remove or find a way to cope and not get stressed over it 🙂
It's great to hear you're going to try what other people have done/suggested 🙂 Good luck (actually I think I might join you on that... Anyone else up for a challenge? 🙂 )

On this note, Has anyone found a great strategie that has helped them overcome a stressful situation?

Today found a comfortable position on the couch and treated myself to Green Lantern: The Animated Series after cleaning out my bookshelf and most of underneath my bed.

As my homework pile is getting greater, I've been listing things and prioritising so I know what I need to tackle instead of stressing out about the amount I need to tackle.

Last night I purposefully went to sleep earlier than I would have if I had let homework/studying have their way.
I'm going to do the same tonight so I can actually be somewhat energised.

Today for parent teacher interviews, I only went to the teachers which I knew would give me okay - good feedback. So I avoided one of them, because I knew I wouldn't have handled the possibly bad things well at that time.
Maybe not the right thing, but it's the best thing for me today.
It allowed me to leave feeling really good about myself instead of ignoring all of the good stuff and focusing on the (possible) bad feedback as would usually happen.

I've been having a lot of issues with one of my teachers lately which has caused me a lot of stress. So today, instead of going to class I decided to come home early and have some 'me' time, watching episodes of my favourite TV show. Maybe not the most productive use of time, but it was certainly the best thing for myself mentally. 🙂

I gave myself a break and caught up on the episodes of Arrow I'd missed (still need my dad to give me more) after a not so good day. I also went onto KHL, which always makes me feel better.

Loving all the recent self care that everyone has posted! It's really great to see! 😄

I've retyped this several times now, and am struggling to find a simple way to word what I'm trying to say.
So the last couple weeks I haven't been so great, you could say I fell into a dark hole. I only started to climb out early last week. Wednesday was kind of a turning point. I fell to pieces and cried infront of my mentor and drama teacher. It was kind a relief that someone kind of understood how I felt and was trying to help me, but I felt so ashamed and just overwhelmed, it all ended in tears. I spent the rest of the day in a bad mood. And amazingly managed to get some work done, which surprised me a bit.
THe last few days I've advanced and am feeling someone better. I've found a bit of motivation and have gotten so much done over the last few days compared to how I was Wednesday, that I'm strocked.
I guess I let myself feel a bit miserable and allowed myself to feel the emotions that were running through me. I then chanelled that emotion into concentrating through my last class - math, and I finished the whole exercise - a first in a while, amazingly I got them all right too! Which was an amazing feeling!
After that things started to pick up, I just found this energy in my that I hadn't before. I don't know what it was.
TOday I haven't felt so motivated but haven't pushed myself to work when I don't have the focus. I guess that's what helped, I worked when I had the motivation and stopped briefly when I felt my interest lagging. 🙂

I've been pacing myself with my studies. While I know I'm behind in somethings and need to focus more time and energy into others, I'm not pushing myself to my limits. I'm listening to my body and brain and doing what I can when I can.

I've been trying to remind myself of the positive comments from people around me to encourage myself. Thus allowed me to get nearly a whole A4 page written for English. Positive encouragement, thus mainly came from the inspiration from my mentor! 🙂

I've been talking about my problems. Even though it's not with someone in my real life, or even a counsellor, it's allowed me to realise that there is crap days and there is good days. I've also helped others feel a bit better online 🙂 Win win
