Self Care

There is often times where we need to take time out and look after ourself. Sometimes it can be hard to know what to do to look after ourself, we can be stuck for ideas on how we can be nice to ourself.

Many times I've found when I've been told to do something nice for myself I sit there and think "what am I supposed to do?". It's different for everyone and I'm wondering what other people do.

What is one nice thing that you have done for yourself today?

(If you're unsure take a look at what other people have said and try and do somehting similar for yourself)

I'll start, I lit my lavender candle put some calming music on and played mahjong before doing some study

@Birdeye: It can be difficult sometimes to figure out what to do for ourself hey? Maybe we can look at it as doing something to help ourself in some way, be it hanging with some friends, talking to someone or just sitting in a place we want to and not letting other other people who are around deter us from what we want to do... Congrats by the way for managing that, I think that would have had to have taken a lot of personal strength 🙂

@Sagira: In relation to our conversation on the previous page, I found out the yoga place that I mentioned... I've got that teacher as my mentor (my choice) and we were going over a study timetable and she suggested I pick up yoga again, and she mentioned how it helped me last year... she gave me the number and rough location... I will have to ask when I ring... Just trying to convince ma to let me go!

Self care, well today I decided to ditch PDH and go and talk to the school counsellor after seeing our relieving deputy. For me it was the best decision as I was already starting to cry and feel bumbed out and didn't want to make a scene in class....
I also took a break from anywork tonight and have given myself time to realise what has heppened today

I managed to motivate myself to exercise this morning - something I haven't done in a few weeks but should get back into doing as it helps manage my mood.

Also took care of myself by taking a break from all the stressful stuff and did nothing except watch DVDs for most of the afternoon. 🙂

This is def a thread I need to comment today

For the second day in a row: feeling really down (no idea what triggered it)

So,

I went and sing to a few songs are thats the Hot40. Ke$ha, One Direction, The Script, Taylor Swift, P!nk, Reece Mastin are the current artists I am hooked on.

Also

Searched and read some Motivational Quotes on Google.

+

Taking it easy, trying not to beat myself up for not doing Uni work.

It's a challenge

woah this thread hasn't had much love recently...
Self care, me? Well I've taken time to breathe. I've stopped everything and focussed on my breathing for a couple mins before continuing with life. 🙂

Today I took care of myself by coming and posting on RO as way to distract myself from the negative thoughts that are currently occupying my brain.

I had a crap week at work last week, incredibly stressful and deflating.

So I made a point of reminding myself to breathe over the weekend. I also reminded myself of an old Stephen Covey trick - concentrate on those things within your circle of influence! So I just tried to let go of those things that were stressing me out and I couldn't control.

Really helped me to start this week off on a much more positive note, and although there are still a lot of frustrations, I keep reminding myself of this and doing more of the things that I can influence and have an effect on.

Hmmm...I'm not really sure what to do for myself this week. I have exams all next week so I'm studying like mad. I also realised I'm starting to get into a bit of funk these last few weeks as I was at home with my family and had stopped doing my meditation, yoga, mindfulness. Seriously impacted my mood.

So...I endeavor to get to a yoga class tonight. I've already meditated today, so that's a start.

I need to not be so hard on myself with studying. Today I'm not so into it and that's okay.

I was kind to myself today and bought my favourite dip (sweet potato & cashew), and took a break from studying to skype with my best friend. I'm about to have a nice hot shower then read my book before going to bed 🙂

Today I'm going to go to a new yoga place. My body has been craving it for the past few days but I keep denying it, often going for walks or doing a few stretches at home. Need to stop that.

I'm going to listen to some rain soundtracks while I study...pretty much all day today.

@Bee That's a good idea have you asked her about a place yet?

In regards to stress...haha Good question. I need to actively partake in not letting things sweep me under. The best suggestion I can give is being present and act mindfully. When you focus on just being, the stress will eventually leave your body in the moment. I'm still learning myself.

@AllyEm Some quality sleep would be amazing!

@dilz I think self realisation is the most important first step.

Well I had one of my close friends trek it all the way from my hometown to my new place 2 hours away. It was great spending the weekend with her on the beach and chatting about...well everything. I really needed it to lift my spirits!

So instead of sulking I've started organising 3 different things to do this week with different groups of people. I need to make friends in my new place and to do that...I need to make the effort. So it will be good to see how it all turns out!

@Sagira: I read you post and was like a place? What??? I went back and read my last few posts... ohhhh no I haven't yet - I keep forgetting. I've done another google search of different gyms in my area, and there is one gym (right near my house!) that offers a program that involves yoga, tai chi and pilates in one session! So I might see about trying that one, but I'll have to check out their prices first...

That's a great idea, trying to focus on the now 🙂

I think one of the greatest things i've done this week was identifying how stressed I was.

Just realising this has been a real relief because now I can find ways to take the stress away and make sure I take care of myself

Hopefully now I can put in place some 'self care' so I don't burn out.

I'm gonna try a few of the things you guys have suggested and see how I go 🙂

I took myself out for a quiet lunch and reading session at a new diner across town. I feel a bit cooped up at home sometimes so it was nice to get out into the fresh air, have a pleasantly long walk there and back, while listening to music.
The food itself was just what I'd been craving and reading while I ate just really helped me to relax and centre myself a bit.

@Bee I think it's great that we can celebrate the time we take out for ourselves.

The yoga was awesome and just what I needed.  I spent a bit of time talking to the instructor afterwards and she gave me a few guest passes to hand out to people.  I gave a couple to my psych today, I figured she would know people who could benefit from it and she appreciated it.  I also went today!!  I've been going almost everyday for the last 3 weeks, it's doing great things for me.

Loving what everyone has done for themselves recently!

@Sagira; That's really cool! Congrats on going almost everyday! That itself is a huge achievement! I did it once a week last year and once lesson I got a bit over confident and was stretching beyond my ability and ended up with very sore stomach muscles for about a week... I learnt my lesson that day... haha... but it was good because we had a teacher who ran the lessons before school so we were so relaxed that day and the feeling flowed over a few days.. it was great.. (*opens google search to find place in my area..)

@Ruenhonx; Glad you like the idea 🙂

@Shadow; Skipping school sounds good, I've had all week of only 2 hours (but I've had exams)

@Lokifish; It can be amazing what we learn somedays hey? I actually having to do 2hours each week of sport at school, as you hit year11 +12 and you don't have it, you miss it... I have a lot of funny memories... like the time I tested gravity numerous times one lesson.. 😄

& Me; what have I done today?
Today I walked to and from my exam. I treated myself to a delicious burger from a locally owned store. 🙂

@ruenhonx  I'd really love a sleep in myself!!  But I can't sleep in past 7am...as I have a bird that wakes me up at 5am every morning.  It's draining.  Urgh...

@Shadow, I love a good chai.  ^_^

@Bee  Yes the yoga is amazing!  I'm addicted to it because it makes me stay present and aware.  It's also great rehab for my body.  🙂  You should definitely take it up again...but slowly!  I also loved sport in high school.

Welcome back!
