[CHAT] Being in the moment.
Has this ever happened to you?
Through mindfulness, we are learning to be with our experience. Studies actually show that when we are engaged with our experience, the parts of the brain that are associated with essentially thinking about you and feeling self-conscious become less active.
In other words, you can stop worrying about the problem and start getting on with solving it!
In this weeks Getting Real session, we'll learn a heap more about Mindfulness, how it works and what you can use it for to make a huge difference in your own life.
So Join us on Monday 12th 8pm AEST and learn how Mindfullness can help you!
@evanescence Totally! Im starting to see music festivals as a place for 'personal growth' because over time I have learnt to 'let go' and really have like you said a timeless experience.
Iv always loved festivals. But since meditating regularly, Life is so much more fun when that self-conscious part of us gets small and smaller (:
In our modern day and life, its is easy to become stressed, both on a moment to moment short term basis, such as a tough assignment, as well as in the long term such as from the continual worry about work or school or home life.
3. What are some things that help you keep stress to a manageable level? Is there such a thing as an "okay" amount of stress, if so, how much stress is okay?

Ah, something that has taken me so long to learn! Usually, I just take a break from whatever I am doing and go for a walk or go for a shower.
Probably a good example recently was last week when there was a bird right outside my classroom window. I wasn't feeling too mentally well, so repetative noises annoy me so much and stress me out as I have no control. I almost lost it, but then I remembered that I had my crocheting in my bag and just got it out and started doing some. Sure, I got a few weird looks off my classmates, but they pretty soon got over it.
Hi everyone! Welcome to tonight’s Getting Real Session!
Tonight we have an awesome topic to focus on – Probably a concept that has changed my life in a positive more than any other one thing.
A big part of tonight is going to be about Mindfulness and how it can support wellbeing in important part of our life like getting to sleep!
Mindfulness can help in both COPING and THRIVING – so it’s a concept that can really benefit everyone!
We also want to explore wellbeing in general and others things that can support an awesome and happy life and lifestyle.
If you haven’t already please check out the Community Guidelines before you join in to the discussion. Talking about thing like stress can for some people bring up negative feelings. If you feel like you would like some extra support I encourage you to use the Emergency Help in the top right hand corner.
With all the formalities out of the way- Let’s kick off at awesome chat with a simple question about mindfulness!
1.What does "being in the moment" mean to you?
What does "being in the moment" mean to you?
To me being in the moment, means that im grounded in whats happening NOW. im not in the past or future.
A place that I find I am SUPER present is music festivals - where you can just dance however you like, go crazy, express yourself and no one cares including myself 😛
1.What does "being in the moment" mean to you?
To me, being in the moment is to take a risk and to challenge yourself to something outside your comfort zone... I think its being exciting and not letting fear come in the way of things...
Evening!
1.What does "being in the moment" mean to you?
It means simply enjoying what you are doing. As well as not being distracted by anything including your phone / camera.
3. What are some things that help you keep stress to a manageable level? Is there such a thing as an "okay" amount of stress, if so, how much stress is okay?
Sure! I think stress can be a GOOD thing - in the right amounts it can prime you up for a treacherous task at hand, make you study when you'd rather be outside, push you out of your comfort zone.
Some things that help me keep stress to a manageable level are doing some physical exercise like walking, stretches, yoga poses, cycling, have a swim , going out to potter in the garden, or clean up a bit downstairs. Or tune out by watching a spot of tele, a movie,or read a book, or something totally brainless and in the moment 🙂 ...and Make sure overall that I eat pretty much healthy, getenough sleep.
I guess it boils down to self care. If I get to a point where I am stressed out and/or exhausted, I know I have missed something out, orbeen overdoing it. So I get into my body, take lots of slow breaths, tune the outside world out, and go do one of those things on my self care list.
