Following through on our resolutions
As 2016 draws to a close, a new year is fast approaching.
(awww yeah!)
Part of the new year is making resolutions. Whether it's to exercise more, get started on that novel or story you're writing or something else, resolutions can be hard to follow through on.
Join us next Monday, 19th at 8pm AEDT where, we'll be talking about how to get started on any changes that you might like to make, either now or in the new year, and make them stick.
Well @Ben-RO next time I want to do X, you can tell me I've promised myself not to do that anymore and I'm focusing on running instead.
And you can write my training program and come help me train (you can ride your bike while I run)
@loves netball Setting smaller goals is a great way of working towards bigger ones. Sounds like you've got some good ideas to help with preparing for the marathon. If joining an atheletics club or the like would make you super anxious, try and focus on other methods in preparing and devise your own training plan. It can be a lot easier to ask google than someone in the real world too!
Setting smaller goals for bigger goals applies to your other one as well, like setting in place things that will help prevent you getting to a place where it's hard to keep that resolution. This is a bigger discussion probably better for another ongoing thread. We'd be happy to support you however you need and help you figure that out if you want to.
@May_ you've given me an idea - print off my strengths profile and stick it on my wall
What things can you put in place to help you achieve your resolutions or goals?
I find that having a real meaning behind them helps. If they're shallow goals, they'll spark and fizz out pretty quick. So having real passion for it so that you can constantly remind yourself helps for me.
Being specific as well! I don't think I can count the times I just said "I want to do better in uni" and the use up too much energy trying on everything at once.
I think I just set one too difficult to achieve... but maybe I should actually do it; gives me a purpose in life
Well, L-sits are easy to pracitce! Maybe you can do a Marathon AND do an L-sit with all the goal setting and attaining skills you'll get tonight! At least if you'd like to 🙂
Do you think you have set resolutions in the past that are too difficult to achieve?
Yes I think I have pretty high standards for myself so I don't want to set goals that I think are too easy. But then when I set the bar too high I often end up giving up! So I gotta make some SMART goals 😛
In the exercise world SMART goals stand for:
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Realistic
Timely
Lazy, no real incentive or reason to follow through
Hey @May_!
I'd say one thing that could/would contribute would be how specific the resolutions are, and how realistic. e.g. I did set myself one to keep a diary, ideally every day. That falls under the umbrella resolution to write more.I haven't written in the diary every day, but I'd say I've made it at least once a week and the commitment to my writing has made me a lot happier.
Long story short, I'd say it's best to be specific and realistic.
I'm not the kind of person to make resolutions. Mainly because they're basically a goal and a new year isn't going to change my lack of wanting to change.
@Ben-RO I could tell everyone how to get fitter, just come hang out with me for a week LOL
Have you ever successfully completed a new years resolution? What resolutions worked/didn't work? What was it or how did you make sure you did it?
I repayed my mum $5500 for my car and that one of the NY resolutions I actually stuck to.
Being in debt feels really uncomfortable for me so it was all about staying focused on saving to get away from that discomfort.
Sooo first question...
What are some new years resolutions you have made in the past?
Some New Year's Resolutions I've made in the past... honestly, I don't think I could name any specific one. I tend to set myself general aims e.g. eat healthily/get fit, and then can't/ don't measure the outcomes...
What are some new years resolutions you have made in the past?
What are some new years resolutions you have made in the past?
Pretty common ones
- Get fitter
- Spend less money on food
- Become more organised
Hey everyone!
What are some new years resolutions you have made in the past?
To be honest, I've never really understood this whole new years resolutions thing. Why wait until the new year to start something? But then again, I never grew up around the culture of new years resolutions.
This is generally my approach to people who wait til the 1st of January to start something ...
Perhaps you guys might be able to change my mind about this.
