Horror movies!
Anyone a fan of horror movies on RO?
Old or new, scary or funny, come together
What are your favorites and discuss?
I loved VHS. I just love short film compilations and this was a great one.
Cabin in the Woods had the best twist ever.
But Sinister really scared the hell out of me 😛
I can sit on YouTube for hours and watch ghost clips. I always look for horror movies about ghosts or based on true stories! (:
I majorly believe in ghosts so I love movies about them.
I also like to watch horrors based on true events.
Hey @ShadowOfMistake,
Good to find someone else who believes in ghosts! Have you watched 'The Conjuring'? It's based on a true story. And I quite enjoyed it. Also, welcome to RO and hope to see you around the forums.
The Orphanage starring Nicole Kidman! Really scary ghost story!
Also, the Shining (made in the 70s or 80s I think?) scared the CRAP out of me.
blithe
no no no
Horror movies scare me so much!!!
But good on you guys for having the ability to get passed the opening scenes 😉
You know what you shouldn't do?
Watch American Horros Story while home alone sick. Holy crap it's full daylight and I'm too scared to leave the lounge room haha
Watching scary/creepy things while your sick is actually the worst idea. Once I watched Black Swan while I had a fever and needless to say I regreted the idea a lot 😛
Just saw this awesome thread buried in the deep. 🙂
@drhalloween I not long ago watched Sinister. I loved it. Didn't scare me at all. I'm weird like that.
ABC's of Death is really weird. It was so weird that I pretty much laughed at everything. But then again, I find something to laugh at in all horror movies. I think there is something wrong with me.
@Lex I found the ending of The Conjuring a little flat as well. Good movie though.
I'm an absolute wimp with horror movies, but I do like the occasional old cheesy one or the so-bad-its-actually-good ones 😛
Once my friend made me sit down and watch The Shining, Jack Nicolson was amazing in it but man it creeped me out!
Stoked someone mentioned v/h/s. such a good movie. Yet to see number 2.
Other favs are House of 1000 corpses, the ring, and the recent re-make of Evil Dead.
Also very happy that Hellraiser is getting re-done buy Clive Barker!!
As a kid the first 3 Hellraisers scared the life outta me lol.
BUT the scariest movies are always Thai or other places that arent American. The Art of the Devil is sooo good. But super full on.
Hello,
To be honest I'm not the biggest fan, but I do watch some. Most of the time I prefer tv thriller/horror like "American Horror Story". I'm completely obsessed. There's something about this show that gets you hooked! Love it.
Cheers,
Xiera
Ooh I haven't seen Tucker & Dale. Will have to take a look.
I watched The Conjuring recently and thought it was suitably creepy. It has very positive reviews, I think mostly because it harkens back to a more traditional horror film style. Just hints of real horror but lots of build-up to make you hide behind your pillow long before anything scary actually happens.
I thought the ending was really really flat though — but I might be in the minority there.
@Lex Have you seen The Devil Inside?
It's actually pretty good but I warn you, the ending is really bad

I haven't. It's incredibly poorly rated/reviewed. 18% on metacritic!
That tends to make me shy away from it a bit.
If anyone hasn't seen Tucker & Dale Vs Evil I seriously recommend it. It tells the story from the 'bad' guys point of view for a typical teenage slasher movie. Funny as hell
@Chonty I love Tucker and Dale! I found it hilarious
Has anyone seen the ABC's of Death? If so, what's it like?
I love horror movies
I love old and new horror films
there are so many to pick as favourites but I’ve always gone back to Freddy Vs Jason. Train to Busan is another favourite of mine.
I love zombies
But, Coraline the animated film with the button eye people always terrified me, many sleepless nights..
Horror movies are a no no for me I remember when I watched 'The nun' I was soo scared that I had to watch a comedy movie right after, just so I can erase every memory of that movie
I think the original Alien was pretty scary. And I loved the set design and everything on that movie; it had a lot of visual imagery that I think kinda really helped the scare tactics.
The Cabin in the Woods is a pretty good satire on the slasher horror genre in general, I think. Like, when you first start watching it; it looks like it's just going to be another cliche slasher horror flick--actually, the first scene was purposely designed to make you think you'd walked into the wrong movie--but once it gets to the halfway mark; it has a few twists that really take a look at the genre.
I like The Green Mile as well, and The Shawshank Redemption. I'm not sure if you'd really call them straight up "horror", but it was based on a book by renouned horror author Stephen King.
Secret Window was also based on something by Stephen King, and it's a bit more traditionally in line with the idea of a horror movie. It's got Johnny Depp in it and he does pretty well in it. I'd tell you about the plot, but I really don't want to give anything away.
I'm pretty keen on seeing Carrie, but I've read the book and I'm not expecting that to be overyly scary.
I'm an abosolute sook, but love to watch old horror movies. Mostly because the special effects are so dated all you can do is laugh haha. Paranormal Activity was funny, but only because my partner was so scared he had to watch it from the kitchen with the sound turned off :3
Most disturbing one I've seen lately would have to be Drag Me To Hell. Screw the ending to that 😞
I love horror/slasher movies.
My faves would have to be
-Friday 13th (original)
- nightmare on elm street (old and new)
- strangers (even though this is based on real life events it's super scary)
