Safe Space Imagery

Who else does safe space imagery?! I'v striped it before and really liked it, but I definitely want to do it more regularely in the future. It's pretty cool, when things get tough you can imagine yourself in a safe place where you feel happy and calm. It can help us to tolerate distress and strong negative emotions.

@Ben-RO posted a really good link earlier that reminded me of this awesome strategy - http://www.dbtselfhelp.com/html/imagery.html and now we were wondering what other people's happy imagery places are? How does this kind of imagery help you, or would you consider giving it a go?

My happy place is kinda made up haha I always imagine that I'm lying on a very soft mattress on the floor in a dark room. I'm all alone except for a black cat and rain is hitting the window outside really loudly Smiley Very Happy

Here is an article on the importance of greenspaces (something I found interesting when studying environmental psychology)

Love this vintage thread, and @Lost_Space_Explorer5 's idea to revive it! My safe space is defs an old time-y library where you can eat food, the right amount of peaceful noise and ambient yet sufficient lighting where you can study without pressure or just chill out.

My safe space is an outdoor area near a lake with nice grass to sleep in and my cats are there and we just chill. No people are around and it's sort of enclosed by trees

Sort of something like this

Finally I think I've got, just not all the details

@DruidChild @Ben-RO

Running - my body's upright, not hunched at the shoulders, powering through each stride with ease, my mouth is moist (just how I like it when I run); the air is going in my nose and out my mouth, the air is cool and slightly drizzling around me, the scenery is green, there is no annoying feeling in my stomach, my chest feels light, and my arms move effortlessly.

Yep I think that's me feeling safe 🙂

@loves netball that sounds so amazing, i love it. you both put so much thought into it!!

You know how when you close your eyes you get like. little bursts of lights - i think its called phosphenes? I like to kind of harness that imagery and pretend im lying in a field looking up into space. like if i had really good vision and could see more in our night sky. and if its like im zooming when i close my eyes, then i think im flying through space, or watching firework if thats what it looks like. basically i try to focus on phosphenes and not anxiety ^^

Great thread, @DruidChild! 🙂

One of my safe places is an island and another is in a forest. I usually use these when trying to sleep.
