Today I practiced self care by...
Hello people of RO
I wanted to make a thread where we could all keep track of our self care and encourage each other to take care of ourselves.
Today I practiced self care by taking a break from my assignment for some fresh air. How did you practice self care today?
@A_Friend I completely understand that feeling! It is so nice that you have the capacity to reflect on what your body wants and needs. Sometimes when you're in a routine you can forget to slow down, but we also need to be able to recognise when it is important to.
What kind of self-awareness methods do you have in place? I'm sure so many people could gain some direction from your experiences
@Kaylee-RO Self-care for this has been to in the morning just taking a minute to breathe to decide whether can I workout or I need a day off or if I need a day off of work/study sometime soon if cant that day. Also increasing mindfulness to increase myself awareness, which means check-in with yourself throughout the day for that is when I snack before lunch, at lunch, snack again before dinner and after dinner. I also like to journal if I feel that some feelings have been bottled or maybe harder to cope with. Has anyone else found any self-care strategies that can help with allowing yourself to take a break and not getting overworked?

@WheresMySquishy so simple yet accessible and effective! I love that kind of self-care!
Today I practiced self care by sleeping in an extra 15 minutes before getting up for work. Haven't had the best sleep the last few days and wanted to give myself a few more minutes of comfort before a big day of work!
Love this idea for a thread as everyone's self care is different and if you're ever slumped for how to give yourself that extra TLC, you can come here and get some tips!
This is my first time here and its amazing to see how great and supportive the community at ReachOut is!
Today i practiced self care by taking a longer lunch break to read in the sun
Today I practiced self care by reading and drinking a warm cup of tea to destress. Right now I am reading Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman and I am really enjoying it. I also took a nap afterwards
Today I practiced self care by making sure that I got enough sleep and listened to relaxing music when I was feeling down!
Today I practiced self-care by having a video game marathon! It was so much fun.
Today I practiced self-care by letting myself to take break from everything for this one day. Therefore, instead of continuing what I have been doing, like drafting and writing cover letters and applying for jobs, I went out for a walk to get some fresh air. I went shopping this afternoon and bought myself my favourite food and drink from the café that I really like. And now it is almost time for dinner. Yeah, nothing much happened. An unproductive day. But I am so happy.
Today I practiced self-care by celebrating the small victories. I often get caught up in the thought process that if something is not completed/ finished then it's not worth celebrating. When in reality making a start on the assignment is one small step closer to it being done and reading a few pages in the book is again another small step to finishing the book. Rather than focusing on all the things I haven't completed, focusing on the things that I have done made me feel a lot happier about my day
Today I practiced self care by allowing myself to tune out a little, and not focus all of my energies on things that would make me more tired and angry. What I mean by this is today I felt very tired and unmotivated, so I didn't force myself to do some uni work, because I knew it would just make me more upset and I wouldn't end up learning anything anyways! So instead, I practiced self care by just allowing myself to do some relaxing things such as watching Netflix before bed 🙂 I've learnt that such as important form of self care is just to listen to what you need, and what your body and mind needs the most to function, and look after yourself because there will always be more time to do uni!
Today I practiced self care by booking a massage for this afternoon
Today I practiced self-care by telling myself it was okay that I procrastinated posting this for a couple of days and to not beat myself up over neglecting my to-do-list! Personally this is an important reminder for myself, due to overwhelming perfectionist tendencies and the anxiety of doing "enough" in this busy busy world full of expectations :).
