Special Discussion on Sexuality: We have a discussion about sexuality here! There will be a number of activities over 3 weeks on this thread, so keep an eye out for new discussion questions each week.

 

Special discussion on being a part of the bisexual community: Following on from the special discussion about sexuality, we will be talking about bisexuality and sharing some stories from young people about how they came to understand their sexuality. 

 

Getting Reals: We have three getting reals this month. Self Care and Empathy will be live chats from 7-9pm AEST. Stress about the future will be a week long discussion.

 

NAIDOC week: This year's theme for NAIDOC week is Voice. Treaty. Truth and we will be celebrating with a discussion about what this year's theme means to our community. We will also be speaking live on Facebook with Career Trackers, the Indigenous Internship Program from 6pm Monday the 8th of July, and then bringing the conversation to the forums for a live chat from 7pm! 

 

Ask a Pro: Live with Kai and Olivia talking about Gender: Our guest speakers will be joining us for two hours to talk about gender! You can submit Kai and Olivia questions to answer on the night Smiley Happy

Ask Me Almost Anything:

 

This month we are switching things up a bit! We are doing an Ask Me Almost Anything where the guests will be various LGBTIQA+ staff members of ReachOut. This will be a unique opportunity for the community to get to know ReachOut a little more, for us to shine a light on the value of peer experiences and answer your questions. 

 

Getting Reals

 

For anyone who's new to the forums, Getting Reals are discussions where we dive a bit deeper into different issues and they are driven by our amazing volunteer mod team. If you'd like to check out all of our past GR sessions, you can find them here.

 

Our Getting Real Live is on Labels and is on the 16th from 7:30pm AEST. 

 

Guides and Chats

 

On the 10th of this month we'll be sharing Our Guide To: Telling Your Story 

 

And on the 5th we'll be doing a Let's Chat: Mardi Gras

 

Weekly Wellbeing

 

We'll be doing our weekly wellbeing activities as usual - so keep an eye out for those.

Ask Me Almost Anything:

 

This month we are taking about neurodiversity! We are doing an Ask Me Almost Anything where the guest will be Ginny from Reframing Autism. This will be a great opportunity to open up about the challenges autistic people face with their mental health -- and how to support your autistic loved ones.

What's happening in August 2019?

 

ReachOut Youth Forums August 2019.png

 

Sleep awareness week discussion: National sleep awareness week starts on the 5th of August, so with that in mind, we thought it would be good to open the conversation up around how we can improve sleep for ourselves.

 

Wear it Purple Day :  We will celebrate this day by reflecting on the amazing special discussions we have had about sexuality and bisexuality, as well as our Ask a Pro Live Event about Gender.

 

Getting Reals: We have two getting reals this month. Rapport with professionals will be a week long discussion, and Motivation and Studying will be a live chat from 7-9pm AEST.

 

Ask a Pro: Live Bre: This month's Ask a Pro Live will be with Bre the newest member to the ReachOut team. Bre will be joining us for two hours so we can get to know her a little better and hear about her advocacy work with young people.Smiley Happy

Study Stress! This month ReachOut is focusing on study stress! You may see ReachOut in the media talking about study stress, social media content focusing on this topic and content on our website! We are also bringing the topic of study stress to the forums this month, looking at ways coping and building study skills.

 

R U OK Day: We will have a discussion about R U OK Day and ways you can get involved to check in with members of your communities. 

 

Getting Reals: We have two getting reals this month. Stereotypes and Discrimination will be a week long discussion, and Group Work will be a live chat from 7-9pm AEST.

 

Ask a Pro: Live This month's Ask a Pro Live will be about study stress! Keep an eye on the forums for more information!

Recovery! This month the forums are focusing on Recovery and Wellbeing! A lot of this month's activities will be centered around Mental Health Month, Recovery and Navigating the Mental Health System when seeking help!

 

Special Discussion; RECOVERY! We will be hosting a month long discussion on Recovery to explore what recovery is, what it means to members of our forums community, and taking steps towards recovery. Keep an eye out for a different activity each week!

 

Mental Health Month: We are talking about mental health month here! Do you want to help us celebrate World Mental Health Day on the 10th of October, visit the thread to find out how you can get involved in Mental Health Promise activities, and more!

What's happening in November 2019?

Relationships! 

This month the forums are focusing on three different types of relationships: friendships, Romantic and sexual relationships, and family! A lot of this month's activities will be centered around these three types of relationships, including a tool kit to cope with relationship dynamics during the upcoming holiday season. 

 

Special Discussion on Healthy Friendships: We will be talking about friendships starting the 8th of November! This special discussion will have questions and activities to explore the role of friendships in your life. 

 

Special Discussion on Romantic and Sexual Relationships: We will be looking at the many different types of romantic and sexual relationships, and their role in your life! Topics such as connection, healthy communication, sex and maintaining a healthy relationship (and what to do if you are concerned about a relationship!) are just some of the things we will talk about here. 

 

Activity: Family and Home Life Toolkit: With the holiday season approaching, this activity will help you build a toolkit of ideas to help you cope with family and home life.

 

Movember! This month is movember! This week we will be posting some more information about how you and your communities can get involved in the movember campaign this month!

Getting Reals: We have two getting reals this month. Inter-generational differences will be a week long discussion from the 11th-17th of November, and When friends drift apart will be a live chat on the 18th of November from 7-9pm AEST. The Holidays are here!

December marks the start of the holiday season, with school, university, TAFE and many workplaces wrapping up for 2019! This month we will be focusing on coping with the holiday season. 

 

Wrapping up our Special Discussion on Romantic and Sexual Relationships: The last discussion activity will be posted this month to wrap up our discussions of healthy relationships. The discussion is here!

 

Activity: Family and Home Life Toolkit: With the holiday season approaching, this activity will help you build a toolkit of ideas to help you cope with family and home life! Note, this activity is carrying over from November!

 

Getting Reals: We have two getting reals this month. Dealing with the holidays is live now and will be a week long discussion from the 9th-13th of December, and Let's have a fun GR will be a live chat with fun activities on Monday the 23rd of December from 7-9pm AEST. Ask a Pro: Live We won't have an Ask a Pro Live this month, but this activity will be back January 2020!

What's happening in March 2020 ?

 

After a really busy start to the year, we are really happy to resume our regular programming and share our upcoming events for this March!

Ask A Pro Live: Bi Visibility: we have a really exciting Ask  A Pro live tonight, 4th March, from 7-9pm (AEDT). In the spirit of Mardi Gras we’ll be shining a light on the “B” in LGBTIQA+. We will be talking about all things Bi Pride & Visibility with Anthony. It's promising to be a really exciting and inspiring chat, we would love for you to join us! 

We also have a second Ask A Pro pencilled in with the amazing team from Tomorrow Manthey are all about "reinventing masculinity, disrupting stereotypes and strengthening emotional muscle" . We will keep the community posted on when that will be, it promises to be a great discussion. 

 

Getting Reals: We will have two getting reals this month, driven by our amazing volunteer mod team. The first one is already underway, and is about When Something Goes Wrong  . It is still running at the moment until the 6th March, and we've already seen some great discussion there. The second GR for the month will be what does success look like to you? If you're new to the forums and would like to check out the amazing archive of all of the GR discussions, you can do that here

 

Weekly Wellbeing activity: we had a great Weekly Wellbeing thread on self-hacking which you can check out here , keep your eye out for new threads every week where we discuss everything from self-care, to favourite podcasts, to ways to connect with the people around us. The archives are here  and are full of great ways to stay well. 

 

Special discussions: we have a special discussion thread about coronavirus here , so head over there if you want to learn more, are feeling concerned, or just want to chat. 

There's also some great threads there from previous special discussions, including discussions about recovery, sexuality, and LGTBQIA+ issues, check them out here 

 

Important dates: We also have International Women's Day coming up on 8th March, and Harmony Day on 21 March.

What's happening in June 2020 ?

 

What a crazy ride 2020 has been so far - it's hard to believe it's now JUNE. We are really excited about the activities we have planned for this month:

Ask A Pro Live: Creativity- Wednesday 3rd June 

 

Creativity has a huge part to play in maintaining our mental health and wellbeing.  We are super excited to be welcoming Rheanna Lotter on Wednesday 3rd June, 7pm-9pm

Rheanna is a proud Yuin woman from the South Coast, and has used creativity as a tool to manage her mental health and connect with culture. You can submit questions to the google form here, and join in with the discussion on Wednesday. 

 

Getting Reals 

 

We have three getting reals coming up this month. 

 

A slow mo Getting Real has already kicked off this week and will run all week from 1st-7th June - it's on Coping With Loss. 

 

We'll then have a Getting Real on Music on 15th June , and a Slo Mo Getting Real on Social Media  on 29th June.

Ask A Pro Live: Life After Social Distancing. Thursday 23rd July

 

This month, we will be having a chat with Joe, who's a clinical psychologist, all about how we can all adjust to the new normal as lockdown restrictions start to ease. It will be a great chance to talk about how we can look after our mental health in these weird and challenging times.

Weekly Wellbeing

 

July is Dry July , and whether or not your're participating, it can be a good time to take a look at your drinking habits and relationship with alcohol, and maybe make a few changes. We'll chat about that in Weekly Wellbeing, you can also check out our massive list of previous Weekly Wellbeings here, and see if there's something there that you'd like to give a try.

Ask A Pro Live: Opening up to Parents 

 

This month we'll be chatting with the one and only @Janine-RO - I think we can all agree that we are lucky to have such a comforting, insightful mod as part of our community. What's more is that as a parent Janine might be able to answer some of your burning questions about opening up to your parent. 

 

Getting Reals

 

Our amazing mods will be leading the following events.This month we'll be doing a  Live GR on our Bucket/Experience list - get involved to contribute to that conversation. You might get some inspo or give someone else an idea too. 

 

And for our monthly Slow-Mo GR we'll be chatting about When "help'' isn't helping.

You all know our Ask A Pro's  - but from this month onwards this live event will be getting a makeover. We're changing the name to Ask Me Almost Anything!! And to kick off the name change we'll have our very own @Saltwaterdreamtime joining us to talk all about their journey with mental health and being a proud Arrernte man.

Due to an unexpected delay we are only now getting a solid date for the Ask Me Almost Anything on Change. We will be holding this conversation on the 1st of March which will be a Monday evening. We are going to be welcoming a new guest for this chat, check out all the details here
