High School Student Support Squad!
I'm a little jealous of the uni student support squad, so I thought we should probably start one for people in high school like me.
Here's a place for all things high school - tests, exams, staying organised, picking subjects, hating trigonometry, and all that fun stuff 🙂
I’m at the end of grade 10 this year- going to a different school for 11/12 and just want to say that I really struggle sometimes. Not necessarily academically, but with time management and stress, and I have so many commitments that I’m constantly burning myself out to the point I have to stay home sick because I make myself ill from all my extra-curricula activities plus school
Hey @Tink28 definitely understandable to hear you need some sick days with all that is going on, you probably need rest with all the activity fatigue Is there anyone that can support you in easing up your schedule a bit? Anyone who can help you figure out how to manage it? Let us know.
People that I ask usually tell me that I need to stop doing at least one thing, but they don't really get that that's not much of an option.
I don't usually have a lot of spare time, but when I do, I listen to music or watch movies, or occasionally spoil myself with a DIY pedicure pretty much
Today has been good, thanks! Got to score/referee junior cricket this morning instead of maths, which took some stress off, and looking forward to my Sweet 16 party tomorrow which will be a welcome break before the term gets absolutely insane- I have dance dress rehearsals all next weekend and I'm in more than half the total dances for two concerts- 44 dances all up!!
@Tink28 Enjoy your party! I am super jealous haha
A party seems like a great way to blow off steam.
Hey everyone, just wanting to check how we're all going? End of term soon, hopefully you will all have a chance for a well-deserved break! 🙂
Im so behind in yr 12 so im gonna try to catch up these holidays, but i know myself well enough to know im probably gonna spend most of my time procrastinating.
Year 12 sucks.
Being behind is tough, and trying to catch up can be quite stressful. What have you tried so far to catch up?
@Bee Well at the moment i am just focusing on my major works, like English extension 2 and society and culture PIP. Im doing primary research and i am trying to get as many responses for my questionaire as possible, but so far i havnt gotten many so im kinda stressed about that.
I agree with @gina-RO that 2 major works is a big task with lots of work to complete. I know this can be stressful to do at times. One thing I found helpful was breaking it down into smaller sections and do a bit at a time.
Hello to all our forums high school students!
Coming into the end of the second term, we want to say a big well done! This time of the year things can start to feel pretty tiring, and we have got some activities planned for the forums in the holidays to help unwind and build in self care! (A calendar is coming soon so you can see what discussions are happening and when!)
Would love to hear how the last semester went for you, and how you are planning to spend your school holidays?
We are here to chat if you need it
I don't really want to go on Holidays, as I prefer to be away from home where I can be what I want to be.
But I guess it will be good, as even I need a break sometimes.
I'm hoping to go and be a junior leader for a church camp in the first week, but that's still being considered. I also think that there's a workshop that I'm going to, but I don't actually know about that one either. And finally, I have a big and intense 2 days of running the musical I'm doing on the Friday and Saturday of the last week of holidays. It's going to be a big couple of days, and I don't think I can stay calm and composed under the pressure of looking after myself and doing the show. But I'll try.
I've also been struggling with feeling empty and wanting someone to hold on to. Those feelings are making it harder to cope with the last few days of school.
Anyways,
I can't wait to see the calendar for those activities!
How has everyone else's school semester been?
//Nothing is impossible. The word itself says "I'm Possible"//
I've had a pretty big semester this year- our schools production of wicked took up a large chunk of time (I guess it was good to distract me for a bit)
Right now, I'm currently in the process of picking my year 10 subjects for next year which I'm kinda scared about actually. I don't know what the workload is like and if I can handle two VCE subjects early arrgh and then which ones to do
I'm interested to hear about how everyone else's school year has been so far and what everyone is plannin for the holidays and next semester?
That's cool that we're both doing a musical production. I was going to do wicked, but my director thought it was too big of a show, and we don't have a way of making our cast fly.
I'm not looking forward to science in term 4... We have to do reproduction, and we'll be dissecting a uterus... I'm gonna pass out and I have a weird stomach. Oh well.
Good luck with picking your year 10 subjects. I'm only in year 8, so I'm not quite there yet.
It's getting towards the busy end of the school year... how's everyone coping?
hey @indieinsanus , two major works is a big feat! sounds like you've got lots to do at the moment.
How is the research going now?
@gina-RO Im just struggling with distributing and receiving enough responses for my questionnaire. I have to do three primary research methodolgies, i've chosen them but now its just a matter of executing them well.
Hey @indieinsanus, taking on a primary research study can definitely be a lot of stress, particularly when there's things you can't control directly, like participant response rates.
Have you spoken to your supervising teacher about this? Maybe they can give you some ideas to bump them up a bit. Might also be worth asking them exactly how the work is marked, as some of the time these projects are really more about your own analysis/discussion of the data, rather than the data itself. So it might not end up mattering that much if you don't get a tonne of responses, so long as you can discuss why that might have happened - in any case, it's a good thing to ask so you can plan early on 🙂
Good luck with everything, I'm sure you'll nail it 🙂
