Has your pet helped you make positive changes in your life? How so?

Exercise! When we had Dexter i use to walk him twice a day for 1/2 an hour to an hour! Felt so good being out and about... but it was so bad during the winters... we mostly wrestled indoors.. lol

Opening up. Sometimes i think it's so much easier to talk to animals... sure they don't give any response but it's just good to say things out loud... Dexter and my fish were pretty much  my animal journals... they looked after me very well and were great listeners!  Cat Happy

I think the speed of this has been the cause of my rapidly approaching migraine. So I'm going to call it a night and sleep. Have fun guys! I can't wait to see the whole discussion tomorrow and see how many posts we managed in 2 hours - we're already on over 70 in 20 minutes!

How can having a pet improve your mood?

I have to admit I've got a bit of an unfair advantage here...I'm training Frankie to become my psychiatric service dog, so she is learning some higher level training to help me with my mood and emotional regulation/stabilisation. She can often alert me if I'm spiraling into an episode and help me to meditate/calm myself. 10744497_10152762958046866_1642938437_n.jpg

Hi everyone, sorry I'm late.

My pet collection includes a pet rock and a million stuffed animals (most OD which are sheep tbh)

I have a pet plant! I recently planted it, but it isn't taking too well. :'(

My entire life can be described in one sentence: It didn't go as planned and that's okay. ツ

How can having a pet improve your mood?

For me there's nothing better than coming home after a long hard day of work/school to a dog wagging its tail to see you. Such a great feeling to know that someone is there waiting for you and happy to see you. *probably dexter wanting a bowl of food... but still love seeing happy pets cos they immediately lift your mood

Even when you're in the worst mood, they still want to be around you! 🙂

How can having a pet improve your mood?

So many ways! For one, sometimes i'll come from work or uni after a really crappy day and be really stressed out and unhappy. Then i'll see my cat do something funny or weird like dive into a plastic bag or squeeze into the tiniest box. It's hard to stay serious after seeing that.

This convo is moving so quick tonight!

How can having a pet improve your mood?

I think it can help with loneliness (which is why I want one when I move out), and they can make you laugh and cheer you up when you are sad. I think they are also a good way to distract yourself when you are sad.

Because they love you all the time even when you feel like no one else does

Cos they listen to you and don't judge you

Cos you can take them for walks and exercise is good for your mental health

Cos they make you laugh and laughing is probably also good for your mental health

Oh and the parrot that lives next door is pretty sexist! Tried to bite a few of my fingers off for no other reason than that I am a female.

Birds can be crafty @stonepixie you've got to watch them 😉

originally posted on 27-10-2014 8:27 PM

@Jeremyinthebox My neighbour put the bird on my shoulder, it was quite happy just sitting there until I spoke. Then all hell broke loose! It is really strange considering the owner of the bird before hand was female.

@stonepixie and that is why i am terrified of birds, they may look harmless but they are always ready to fight lol

@ruenhonx  I know what you mean!! We also had several cockatiels, and though they are great to get as babies - when you can feed them and train them to sit on your shoulder 🙂 we also had a few that were given to us, and thus were a bit 'wild' as in not so tame, and yeah, we had to call him Bully, as everytime you got near the cage, he would attack your finger  and try to bite it! Wooooo

@jvkn  Wow, this sure brings back memories!! I had a goldfish when i was twelve, and its name was Kiki!

You never would have guessed how BONDED you could feel to a goldfish - who doesn't really say or do much, right?

Yet i felt so protective of Kiki and i'd walk past and talk to her, and yep, feel this bond Heart

That is a bit strange now i think of it.... Cute, and I actually MISS Kiki!! Cat Very Happy
