[Chat] Physical Health Affecting our Mental Health
We all go through times in our lives when an injury prevents us from going to training or means we miss out on certain event. We also experience times when we are dissatisfied with our physical appearance and may even have physical disabilities. But how does it affect our mental health?
Sometimes we feel strong and powerful physically and this makes us feel accomplished.
But other times, it's difficult to keep up the tempo but everyone has their tough days.
Join us from 8pm (AEDT) on Monday, January 16th to discuss your thoughts about physical health affecting our mental health or post below with your ideas now!
I really like that this topic works in reverse 🙂
ps I have some netball stories related
Greeetings every body and welcome to this evening's GR remember as always that guidelines are important and it's also important to get extra help if you are not feeling too crash hot about something right now.
With that out of the way, lets get this show on the road!
Oh hey @Alison5! Nice to see you! I don't know if I've said hello to you all year!
@roseisnotaplant i hope your internet unbreaks itself soon!
Hmm, time for another question methinks.
Are you someone who exercises a little lots, a lot a little or just not very often at all?
Just to catch up:
Favourite exercise:
Soccer, badminton, hockey, any sport really
least favourite:
Swimming - a bit repetitive.
I agree with everyone about endorphins helping us feel better for Q2.
FOr Q3 about mental health affecting physical health, I think it making us less motivated and feeling drained. Then we don't end up doing anything.
Q4 - Other things affecting our mental health include food, sleep, social aspects of life and how connected we are with ourself (acceptance).
Q5 - Do I exercise much: Ha, not anymore!
I used to be what was considered an 'elite athlete', but still play a number of sports now. I know that I feel better when I exercise and keep busy, so try to sign up for everything.
So now, i'd say I exercise a lot a little (not that little) which isn't as effective as little bits more frequently.

I don't really exercise or go to the gym or anything. I play sport during footy season but during the off season I just try to watch my diet to keep fit.
@RevzZ I like that way of thinking, really opens everything up. And take care tonight.
I used to excessively everyday, now I try to do at least one thing active a day. And if I'm having a really bad day, the most I might do is a few pushups and body weight squats or shoot some netball goals
It's easy to forget why you started something like that. Because it's fun. I've always gotta keep that in mind. That's pretty much the key to getting back into sport for me.
Yeah i am sooooo tired, i need to go and have all the sleeps.
THANK YOU FOR COMING TONIGHT!
I had a quite excellent time and learned a thing or two 🙂
Have a great and restful night!
Q6.
Now I'm sure @Ben-RO will remove this if it's not allowed....
I gave up netball for some years after finishing 17s for a number of reasons - school, horrible coach who came back to the club (she made me cry in front of the whole team once), and a fear of coming across a player who deliberately ran into me (she probably didn't mean to make me land on my head though and be left with headaches and horrible nightmares from it ), so yeah I had a fear of getting concussed.
It took till two years ago to start playing competitive netball again (but I kept watching the elite the whole time I wasn't playing).
But now I have a new fear of finding more social teams (I might be playing girls footy this year so then it won't matter), but a year ago I got dicthed from social team because of mental health reasons. I spent last year being too scared to find new social (week night) teams because of my mental health. Hence this year the new goal of running marathon (I still need to sort that out) and possibly adding a new sport.
That's a super tough and very scary experience @loves netball I can definitely see why it's been so hard and I am sad that it happened i don't think you deserved any of that!
I'm happy and excited to see you find new goals and meaning and things that meet the needs you have for living a good life. This seems like a heaps good post to me and maybe i am too tired to explain why but I think it definitely is.
