@roseisnotaplant What things do you want to do that you haven't been able to due to how you've been feeling? Could you do some of those this weekend?

Whenever I've had to explain my condition to people I say something like 'I have X. Do you know about it?' I start with that because it gives me an idea of what they already know and can clear up misconceptions. If they don't know, I say 'It affects me in these ways, but I can still do X, Y and Z. Treatment involves X, Y or Z. Everyone is different in how the condition affects them and the treatments they find effective. If you have any more questions, I'm happy to answer them. Do you want to go shopping/to the movies ect?'  It's a very effective way of having what can be a difficult conversation, but still keeps things relaxed and polite.

You may have your own way of explaining things. This is just one idea 😀 Let us know how it goes

ok cool thanks for the update @roseisnotaplant

i was on melatonin and found it didnt work for me though others had great success. ive a very long term chronic insomiac though so it might have better success for you. Antidepressants take a minmimum of 4 weeks to even get into the system so not an over night fix unfortunaletly.

i hope all your meetings go well for you. will keep an eye out for you and check in to see how your doing.

im ok i guess. thanks for asking

@roseisnotaplant Finding balance is hard. It's not just about physical limitations at any point in time, but about our own expectations and those of the people around us. The difficult part is when they conflict because others think we should be pushing ourselves in order to build up stamina, but we need to maintain for a bit before we try increasing our level of activity. Think about the times of day you feel at your best and try to do things during those times. When planning tasks, take your activity level into consideration and try not to be too hard on yourself if you can't accomplish everything on the list. Energy levels fluctuate daily and even hourly, so breaking tasks down into 5 or 10 minute blocks can help. That goes for cognitive tasks too. I find they steal most of my energy!

Switching between mental and physical tasks can help preserve energy too. If I've been working on an essay, I might switch to watering the plants, doing a load of washing or doing meal prep.

and when I get tired of that, i'll switch back. Sometimes symptoms are bad and you'll land in bed, but you'll feel better if you go with it because you won't feel so horrible the next day. Things mayneed adjusting as your symptoms fluctuate, but when you find ways to work with them, things get easier and you aren't so overwhelmed by changes.

It take time, effort and patience to figure out how to manage the fluctuations, but take one day at a time and you'll get there.

I'm alwsys here if you need to bounce ideas around too.

I don't hate it @scared01 it's more just something to do, but yeah it's cool. We have this massive yard which needs a lot of weeding, but I have my own veggie patch, and today I planted some tomatos and basil 🙂

Hey @roseisnotaplant, here to listen. What's going on for you?

roseisnotaplantPosted 20-09-2017 10:16 PM
I just have a lot of appointments and things that I should have done that I haven't done and I've missed so much school because of my depression and CFS and my friends are being annoying and I feel guilty about making mum and dad so worried, and then there are other things that I could normally deal with like the postal survey and politicians being stupid and bits of homework but on top of all the other stuff I just can't and AHGHHAGHGAHGA. In a word.

"AHGHHAGHGAHGA" in a word sounds fair enough. Smiley Very Happy

Right now there's so much going on for you no wonder you are overwhelmed. It's honestly one of the most frustrating feelings! Out of those particular things - which one is weighing on your mind at most? Let me know then we can all work out some strategies with the communities help 🙂

I guess the most immediate thing is all the appointments I have. I've been to the GP and a paediatrician and had a blood test all within the last few days, and tomorrow I see my psych and OT, and it's really emotionally draining to go to all these things over and over (plus I don't really like socialising at the best of times, so going over heavy stuff with random strangers all the time is not my jam). I've also had a really hard couple of weeks, so I've kind of gone backwards in terms of stuff that they wanted me to do. Like everyone wants me to get back to doing half days at school, but I've barely gotten out of the house except for appointments in the last few weeks. And my psych wanted me to write down what I'm feeling when I'm feeling really down, which on paper sounds great, but doesn't work practically because when I'm feeling like that I don't want to do anything, let alone pull out pen and paper and try and make coherent sentences. Plus my paediatrician wanted me to start like this diary thing which I also haven't done. Like I understand that all these things are supposed to help me feel better but right now they're just sort of adding to the level of stress.

hi @roseisnotaplant, I can really hear how hard things are for you, especially the added stress of having to do all this journalling. It's much easier said than done Smiley Mad

Goodluck with all your appointments todaySmiley Happy

It went really well @honky and I mentioned the too many appointments situation, and we had a chat about it. The problem seems to be that half of the support I'm getting is from headspace and then the other half is my psych and other medical people that aren't involved with headspace, so I'm getting loads of overlapping support from everywhere lol. We're trying to work something out though.
