Tell us one good thing about your 2020!
There's no doubt that 2020 has been a rough year for most people - between the bushfires that began the year, the pandemic, and now the panic surrounding the US election. So as 2020 nears its end, I thought we could spread some positivity by sharing one good thing (big or small) that happened to us this year! I find that practising gratitude, even for the smallest things, can be really helpful for fostering good mental health.
One good thing that happened to me this year was being able to join the forums as a Builder! It's been really rewarding being able to help others out
Drop one positive (or more!) about your 2020 so far in the comments
@StormySeas17 No way, that's so cool! I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was such a rewarding experience! Definitely very eye opening but it was fantastic knowing how much you can assist someone when they're going through a rough patch with those arguably closest to them. It was also such a great way to learn how the Family Court operates. Would definitely recommend a placement if you ever get the chance
What an amazing thread idea!! It's so important to acknowledge and reflect on the positives of the year
One thing I did was started learning for the sake of learning something new and not just working towards a grade. I used to love learning about new topics and subjects but that somehow got lost over the past year so I'm glad its returned!!
@jlw13 I did my placement at a refugee and indigenous/human rights lawfirm! So I totally understand the feeling of helping those who can't find help otherwise Was yours with a community legal centre? I'm actually interested in family law too but more on the ADR side with mediation etc, even with relationships Australia.
A placement at a refugee and indigenous/human rights law firm sounds so interesting!!
Yes, mine was with a community legal centre! Oh yes, me too, would love to do a FDR Mediator course one day!
@Spicypumpkin That's amazing! I struggle with the exact same problem sometimes re: uni work, then I remind myself I'm doing my degree by choice and that I should relax a lil and enjoy the learning process, and if not, what am I doing?! Just changing your perspective on your study can definitely make a huge difference on your motivation and happiness (and your grade!)
I acknowledge how tough this year has been for so many people, however there have also been a lot of positives for me These are my top 3:
1. I have really improved my grades at uni because I've had no distractions and I've developed some useful study skills that I will take into next year
2. I've become a morning person and actually enjoy getting up early
3. I have had the chance to really get to know my boyfriends 2 sisters and they have become really close friends of mine
Love to all, and I hope the year is up from here on
Hello.
1. I moved out and got my own place this year.
2. I was able to afford a new console after saving up for it for ages
3. After many months of unemployment, i finally managed to get a job.
That is all my good things from 2020.
2. I spend a lot of time with my cat and I found some cute things about him
3. I just found a new interest, which is making jewelleries, and I am about to try it !!
@clarii3105 this is such an amazing idea for a thread I loved reading about all the happy and positive things that happened to people this year!
The happy things that happened to me this year:
1. I made an amazing group of uni friends in my first year could not get through uni without them
2. I started coaching at my old high school and the team I had was genuinely the most lovely group of people even though we were really close in age they respected me and listened to me and made my job so easy and something I really looked forward to
3. I got a new haircut that I have been wanting to get for so long and I finally did it
4. I started volunteering at reach out
5. Despite COVID, one positive of self-isolation was it was actually quite a good time to slow down, organise my priorities, focus on myself and self-care
Hope everyone had a great day today!!
I finally landed a job in the field I studied at university. It was a long road getting there so I'm super proud of myself for that.
This year has had a lot of downsides for me and mentally been very tough, but I managed to pick myself up time and time again. I've been reading a lot of books to change my mentality to a positive and peaceful one and I'm so grateful for them.
The current one I'm reading is called Think like a monk by Jay Shetty, it's fantastic!
This is a great thread @clarii3105 ! So good to reflect on the wins and read about the amazing things people have done
That is awesome that you got a job this year @Rosie97, I'm glad to hear you're really proud of yourself, you really should be ! My win for this year is also that I got a job, I feel very privileged to work at ReachOut and talk to amazing young people every day.
My other win is giving out a lot of feline love, I've currently got my 6th and 7th foster kittens for the year and they bring me a lot of joy
Thanks @Hannah-RO I've always struggled with self-esteem and being proud of myself but I'm slowly starting to learn to celebrate accomplishments small and big.
I'm so glad to hear you have a job you're enjoying, the work you do is so awesome and important!
Yay kittens! I'm actually a dog person, but I'm all for people embracing what makes them happy 🙂
This year I got my beautiful puppy Papaya, who has brought soo much joy and laughter (and pee) into my life
So many good things have come this year even though its been tough for everyone. Being able to spend more time with family is great for me. During this time of isolation even though I was away from all my friends I was able to focus on myself for the first time in a while and catch up on things that I love and miss doing. And lastly I was finally able to find a job so thing have currently been looking up for me.
I think one of the best things that happened to me was starting my own Facebook page related to psychology and mental health knowledge for people in my country. I tend to believe that it is very hard for me to influence others and people do not think highly of me. I was like lets see how it goes and started without doubting about myself. It didn't do well the first 5 months with very low engagement. After 5 months, some of my content started blowing up and now I have nearly 20,000 followers; I am being even invited to be a speaker for youth events. So its normal to doubt about yourself but you will never know how it will be if you don't try it out.
Love this idea @clarii3105!
Something good that has happened to me this year is... Having more time to practise hobbies, and reflect. I now feel rejuvenated and ready to refocus and work hard!
@clarii3105 this is an amazing thread! Thank you so much for creating it!
Why not 5 good things?
1. I started volunteering in so many new places, including being on the executive team for my university's women's club!
2. Animal Crossing for the Switch was released, and the game makes me very happy.
3. A bit ironic, but I have never been as social as I've been this year. I've actually been active and talkative in a few of my uni clubs, and I'm always offering advice on my uni's page.
4. This is just recent, but I discovered that I love backyard astronomy and looking at the moon and stars through binoculars makes me so happy!
5. I managed to complete a uni unit that I've been stuck on for three years (kept having to drop out because of mental health). Hopefully I'll be off doing honours next year!!
Although this year has been tough, so many good things have come out for me.
1. I started uni and am studying an amazing course!
2. I've met some pretty awesome people online through my uni
3. I joined the forums as a builder!
I just want to encourage everyone to see the little successes and achievements this year has brought you; all the laughs and smiles and hugs.
1. I have joined a few programs and made awesome friends who like the same things
2. Melbourne had 0 new cases again yesterday woohoo!! I'm not in Melbourne but I think Melburnians did a spectacular job!
3. There's a facebook group about kindness stories that started this year, and it's wonderful to see how many kind beautiful compassionate people there are
I think this year has still been a good year for me despite everything that's been going on. I hope everyone has found something that made them happy too, and hopefully the next year will be great for all of us
@November13 thank you for thinking about us!! We have 0 new cases today too
No doubt 2020 was tough but it made me really appreciate all the small things in life and it helped me rediscover my love for reading
Another positive is I recently discovered a new meditation app called smiling minds and I'm loving it, it's really helping me to get into mindfulness more!
