Books!
I spend my Sundays unwinding and spending hours reading books. Share your favourite books here!
The last book I read: 12 Years A Slave- Solomon Northup
- Page turner! Very graphic, couldn't bring myself to watch the movie :3
The book I am currently reading: Love Without Limits- Nick Vujicic
- Very inspirational!
Books I want to read next: The Alchemist-Paulo Coelho
- Apparently a good read, can't wait to start it

After reading The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns about a year ago I've finally started 'And The Mountains Echoed' by Khaled Hosseini, and I'm enthralled. His writing provides such an insight into Afghani culture 🙂
The true lives of the fabulous killjoys graphic novel
A song of ice and fire graphic novel vol 1
Suicide squad graphic novel vol 1
And currently starting death note vol 1
The last book I read: A Dance with Dragons (the latest of A Song of Ice and Fire series). At the rate George RR Martin is writing though, I'll probably start watching the new series of Game of Thrones instead of waiting for the next book
The book(s) I'm currently reading: I'm trying to finish off a bunch of books I started, which are:
- What about me? The struggle for identity in a market-based society - Paul Verhaeghe: it's an interesting take on mental illness, approaching it from a socioeconomic standpoint
- The Year of the Flood - Margaret Atwood: I started the first three chapters and then forgot I owned the book lol
- Sacred Modernity: Nature, environment and the postcolonial geographies of Sri Lankan nationhood - Tariq Jazeel: just trying to learn more about my home country (away from a nationalist source)
- Women's movement in Sri Lanka - Selvy Thiruchandran: same deal as above
- Emma - Jane Austen: this is the same deal as the Atwood novel, I apparently don't pay much attention to my books lol
Books I want to read next: LOL let's not think about that right now
A book hasn't caused me to laugh for a very long time.
@tsnyder Hopefully you can find some time to read books other than textbooks when you get uni. For me, i found that time was before I went to sleep. 🙂
I am reading Lost and found by Brooke Davis. It is a funny and enjoyable book to read. There are three unique characters you get to learn about. And one of them is a 7-year old kid (Millie Bird). Every time I read her perspective it makes me want to be a kid again. 😄
The last book I read: Shadow of the Wind - Carlos Zafon
- a story about tragic love and mystery, was actually really good! A man at a second hand store recommended it and it's arguably one of my all time faves!
The book I am currently reading: Moby Dick
Books I want to read next: Not sure! By the time I finish Moby Dick, I'll be back at uni which means the only books i'll be reading are text books 😕
So I want to know what book everyone is reading at the moment?
Mine is the complete works of Jane Austen. Currently reading sense and sensibility.
I'm reading the Hydrogen Sonata by Ian M Banks.
Last in the series and he passed away right after it was finished. So I am like kind of dragging it out because i don't want to finish 😛
What now? 😛
I'm about to start A History of Love by Nicole Krauss. She was the wife of my favourite author and I heard they have similar writing styles, so I'm excited to read it!
It's called the outsiders by S.E.Hinton. It's about Galong gangs and the clash between the classes of boys in the neighbourhood who form the gangs. It's a really interesting read, but not complex! The incredible thing about it is how it's written in the 60s by a 16 year old girl, someone who wasn't involved with any of the like, yet she really writes such a realistic and believable account of boy culture.
everybody's responses to this thread are like really well written big novels but I'm not really a big reader and I'm not real great at it so I need something I can follow really easily.
So awesome to see this thread being posted on again!
Right now I'm reading The Martian by Andy Weir 🙂
Anyone else's ideal tree for the festive season?
Also, how have I not heard of Harry Hartog until yesterday?
Yes that's what I love so much about catcher, and i relate so much to holden
I'm reading Adam Braun's story now - 'The Promise of a Pencil: How an ordinary person can make extraordinary change'. Adam is Justin Bieber's, managers younger brother haha. It's a story about how his travels inspired him to start a non-profit organisation targeting the availability of education to every young person across the world. Where you are born should not dictate whether you get an education or not. He has build over 200 schools with his organisation 🙂
Also have just recently reread Nelson Mandela "Long Walk to Freedom". He is someone I look up to very much!
