Talking about anatomy!!
So I thought I would bring uni to the forums to make studying fun.
When I say anatomy I'm referring to the bones in the body and they have things called bony landmarks which are sites of muscle attachment. And of course I'm also talking about muscles... ever wondered how many little muscles are involved in coordinating hand movements??!! LOTS
I feel like talking about the shoulder girdle.... I bet I just confused everyone now
No idea @Sally-RO but clicking the link works, thanks, now I might actually understand that damn shoulder girdle better!! Last year I did an assignment on thoracic outlet syndrome
Personally, I think it's cool how bits and pieces of our insides work to do things but I'm happy to just know that there's lots of bits, rather than learning all the names and such 😄
Oh @loves netball! I know how you feel about anatomy. There are soooooo many things to learn that it gives you a proper headache sometimes. I think I struggled a bit through that section in biology and taking it further makes it more complicated. Have you heard about the memory palace? I find that it makes remembering things fun all of a sudden

How do you do the memory palace technique @RevzZ? I have tried it but it doesn't work well for me... but i got the idea off watching Hannibal... so I'm probably doing it wrong 😛
My favourite bones in the body are the Atlas and Axis. I also really liked looking at bones in Bio Anthropology at uni and looking at different wear marks, changes to the density and structure and other stuff that tells you a story about the life the person lived 🙂
@Ben-RO the atlas sits on top of the axis right? And it allows you to turn your head/ neck! The atlas and axis are also known as C1 and C2, they're cervical vertebra. Have you learnt the bones in the wrist yet or what about the ankle?
The ankle - your achilles attaches to the calcaneous which is the bone at the back of your heel, the talus sits on top of that

I can only remember 6 bones in the wrist. Scaphoid and Metatarsals 1-6 😛 I need a little practice! How do you learn them all?

Sorry @Ben-RO but I couldn't let you get away with that mistake. I'm actually not that much of a nerd; well if I was I probably never would have got yelled at by parents for not getting dux at school.
BUT I bought another anatomy book for uni 😄
Excellent, I have an old copy of Gray's Anatomy and that's about it 😛
I do have lots of text books on molecular biology, genomics and genetics though, I can name all the organelles in a typical Eukaryotic cell as well as most of the enzymes required for DNA synthesis... but for some reason the bones in the hand is just really hard to remember!!!! Now it's a thing and i have to learn them.
Okay Im not going to even try to compete with that.....
Exercise is my speciality, not learning enzymes and DNA synthesis @Ben-RO... haven't done suff like that since first year uni, but can talk about nuerons, motor units, and mitcondria in muscle cells.

I am currently learning about gymnastic strength training. Do you know anything about it?
I know about strength training in general, not specifically for gymnastics. I take you don't mirror train @Ben-RO? By that I mean only train the muscles on the front of your body. At the gym, all a lot of guys do is just bicep curl and bench press. Nothing functional about a bicep curl 😛
For general general strength...
-start with learning movement patterns before adding weight. Getting the right muscle requirement, developing motor neuron pathways
-hypertrophy, trying to increase muscle size
-strength, training specifically to increase muscle strength
-power, lower weight but increasing speed of movement - need a good strenth base to do power training with rates
Ever heard of the velocity force curve (I think that's what it's called)?
Nope, no mirror training for me! I am more focussed on functional strength so i do weird things like kettlebell swings, turkish getups, hollow body holds, L sits, hanging leg lifts, pull ups and other stuff like that. I'm focussing on getting my core strength up at the moment because i want to be able to do a Manna. I've given myself 18 months to build the strength for it and it's my marathon.
I am now resiting the urge to nerd out about the velocity force curve...
Okay I'll stick to running and other sports where my feet touch not my hands

I love that there's a bone called Atlas that holds up your head, just like the myth of Atlas holding up the world! The story nerd in me emerges, haha!

I've been reading a lot about the gut microbiome and how influential it actually is. And now I'm scared off junk food and want to eat nothing but chick peas for the rest of my life because the good bacteria die without a high fibre diet hahaha
@FootyFan26 I did year 11 health in year 10 and LOVED it! It's probably changed a bit since then (that was five years ago :O) but yeah, great subject choice 😛
