Three positives of today

Another frequented thread on the old forums. 🙂
The idea is to look for three positive things about your day whether it's been good or bad.

I'll start it off.

1. I ate some Maltesers and they were very yummy!
2. I got some of my French assignment done. 😄
3. The new ReachOut forums. Am I the only one who was buzzing with excitement when they came on here? 😄

@Saltwaterdreamtime  reading that actually gave me goosebumps - I'm so glad you're OK!!

I've also had a few pretty full on accidents over the years, one of them was when i was mountain biking as a young teen and I still remember that moment after I fell, I had the wind knocked out of me, and I was seriously unable to breathe for a bit. Also, I was by myself - scared the absolute crap out of me. I'm so glad you're alright, what a scare!

The last GIF? Is literally how I am woken up, most days @Saltwaterdreamtime . I'm finding it quite full on having kids in lockdown if I'm honest, but it also really keeps you in the moment, and focused on doing stuff that is fun that day. Which I also reckon is actually really good for grown ups as well, when we're in such weird and uncertain times. Today's agenda includes some epic craft projects (12 year old), and cooking with my mum via zoom (12 year old also) - I really, really feel for people with heaps of young kids, that's when they need a lot of entertaining. Thank goodness for Bluey hey.

How are you and the family going this week @Saltwaterdreamtime ?

My helmet also saved me @Janine-RO I would have been knocked out or worse I think otherwise

I was there on my own but there was lots of other people there being school holidays I just couldn’t believe (well I can beceuse we have such a nice MTB community down here) how helpful every single person was. Like I said so much was going through my head all of the possibilities and damage it could have done and I already have back issues #oldpeopleproblems #obviouslyadad

I may not have been in the child raising industry long but I like to think I’m a seasoned professional when it comes to lockdowns and Bluey does help. But we also have an extremely energetic but also very emotional child, so if you pick the wrong Bluey episode or we don’t have any “pink yoghurts” to eat during preferred Bluey episode then it’s not great a time.
Bluey, Blaze (like a real weird version of cars), and Andy’s Adventures are our shows on rotation.

Even though it’s cold and wintery we’ve just been rugging up and sitting outside, doing chalk drawings, counting leaves, trampoline.
I watched that Simpsons episode last night and nearly died of laughter, I had to include the GIF.

We worked out this little hack during our Vic lockdown, draw a picture of “fire” with chalk on the fence, and then give the kid free range with the hose. Ours will be putting out fires for ages. Not great for the water bill and if you don’t move fast enough away from drawing the “fire” you will get wet, and you’ll have to keep redrawing them, but we still think it’s fun. It’s more of a summer activity but when in lockdown, anything goes lol.

We really struggled to find activities for this age during during our lockdown as well... especially if you don’t have an

art and crafty kid, there’s a big emphasis on that and so many activities you can buy, but none of them work for a kid who won’t pick up a pencil, chalk outside yes, a pencil or paintbrush, absolutely not.
But in saying that though, I couldn’t believe how long H was occupied for whilst playing “find the hat”. I hid a hat, he found it, and then I hid again etc, like a dog playing fetch lol. It’s the simple things.

We are having a tough time at the moment with H, the last lockdown really threw him (and all of us) out of whack. We thought we were maybe getting a little better with anxiety around leaving the house, going to kinder etc but since that lockdown it’s really made it worse, even though kinder was still open. We are trying to get him out of the house to do some fun activities. I think we have opposite problems here @Janine-RO We’re trying to get ours out! You’re trying to keep yours busy at home!

Apart from that we are doing well, our youngest is an absolute giggle pot and has just started laughing, which is hilarious to us.

Taken us a few months but it feels like we are starting to settle into our family of 4 now, I don’t know if that makes sense, but it’s been rather intense and now it’s still busy absolutely busy, but not quite like what having a newborn and a toddler was like 🤯🤯🤯

Haha please never apologise to me for essays @Saltwaterdreamtime - I am known among my family and friends especially for writing unintentionally long emails!  I touch type so it doesn't take me long to write.. I genuinely need to watch myself sometimes to make sure I'm not writing too much!!

And I was genuinely so happy to read that update from you. I'm so, so glad you were wearing that helmet!! I've had a few nasty falls in my time, and my eldest broke her arm really badly 5 years ago falling off a bike- the first question the hospital asked us was if she was wearing a helmet. Arms can be fixed much more easily than brains!

And hahaha my youngest is also Blaze obsessed- I don't mind it as much as other things. The only thing I have totally banned is Youtube kids, because it was just soooo weird and not great. There's a guy called Blippi who is frankly a bit creepy who does kids stuff.

I'm so happy to hear that you all have settled into your groove a bit more - that all resonates so strongly with me. The first 6 weeks with a newborn? OH MAN. Nobody can prepare you for how much of a massive change it is, and the emotions, and the sleep deprivation, and it's all a bit of a blur to me now for both kids, if I'm honest. But it sounds like you're all in a really lovely place- life is busy, but sounds like you're all coping amazingly with this wild rollercoaster that is 2021.. it's hard for kids though, hey. That's been tough for us, trying to explain to them that sometimes life changes really quickly, and it's out of our control as parents.

Cancelling our holiday plans was a bit rough, mainly because it's hard to disappoint your kids. But they're also enjoying the simple pleasures at home, and we are spending a LOT of family time in lockdown! Ha. You gotta laugh, right? 2021... it's never boring

Yeah, it’s no for Blippi

I did laugh at your Bluey gif in the other reply because that’s exactly how we wake up in this house also, but add in the request to put Blaze on the tv and have honey toast, and it would be spot on.

My three positives of today are:

- I’m really flat because I’m sick of constant interruptions with work, as I am having a little time off this week after the weekends events. But the positive here is that I am home with my family. We went for a drive today and got an icecream.

- Good music. I’m LOVING this song at the minute.

Also, this one is pretty good. https://open.spotify.com/track/3393zlOpodllBdrukRiKdJ?si=wmbu7_TKSC2FeaAsdoM81w&dl_branch=1

- As much as winter isn’t the greatest for the weather obviously, I’m really loving these early sunsets 🌅
