Things I like in this world
I feel there's probably a thread about this or that's at least similar, but I was going through tiktok the other day (of course) and I found this amazingly positive girl who was doing a series on things that she liked in this world. It wasn't like a 3 things positive in your day or anything, but just random things that when you think about it, are so funny and just make you happy. Recently on there, she's been doing a good deed challenge for every day of January and it's so heartwarming to watch!! Never fails to make me smile
I'll start
1. I like when babies try lemons for the first time and their faces scrunch up all funny
2. I like driving on a newly paved road
3. I like watching elderly people dancing together
4. I like when babies do that sumo wrestler type waddle when they start to learn to walk
5. I like how excited people get at a concert- a huge bunch of strangers bonding over their love for an artist singing their hearts out together
6. I like when people make a birthday wish and blow out their candle
7. I like sitting at the beach when there's not many people around and hearing waves crashing
8. I like seeing someone share their umbrella with a stranger when it starts raining
9. I like how excited people get when they say something at the same time
10. I like when people vibe out to the music you like
Your turn! I'll tag some people online recently
@Anzelmo @WheresMySquishy @Hozzles @Lost_Space_Explorer5 @scared01 @Saltwaterdreamtime @Anonymous @Tay100 @StormySeas17 @A_Friend @Tiny_leaf @MB95
Reading through everyone's posts on this thread made me so happy and got me thinking about more things I like in this world
- Being on a huge adventure. For me, nothing compares to the feeling of being on a plane (even though I am a terrible flyer) and landing in a new city. I love seeing a new skyline, lighting up the night and swooping down into it. I looove stepping out of an airport and getting my first smell of that place. I'll never forget how excited I was when I first stepped out into Vietnam and I could smell the smokiness of people cooking out on the streets. I will also never forget laughing with my dad as we sat in the back of our taxi, holding on for dear life as we dodged bikes and trucks.
- That moment at a live concert where the music stops and everyone is singing together, gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
- Unexpectedly fun days/nights where you end up some place you had no clue you'd be and you and your friends talk about all the funny things that happened for days after.
- One thing I looove in this world is Mardi Gras. Being in the crowd is amazing and so is being in the parade, stepping out onto Oxford Street and hearing the roar of pride never fails to make me so happy.
- Foooood. I've been through phases of having a hard time with eating but I love the feeling food can bring. Especially that comforting feeling of having a meal that you love or the burst of energy you get when you have something packed with nutrition.
- Laughing with my best friends. One of my besties is a comic and they never fail to make me laugh, we have spent most of our friendship laughing together and I am so grateful.
- When a new album drops and you love every song on it!!!
- Watching the sun set (I'm never up early enough to see it rise lol).
@Bre-RO I love them!!
- Definitely love adventure! I went on a school trip to Vietnam and Cambodia- The hustle and bustle of the streets is so unique and the smell of delicious food was so lovely. I love visiting countries with their culture and heritage still very untouched by the usual tall skyscraper buildings and roads with cars we see day to day.
- I went to an Adele concert a few years ago and it was the most surreal experience! My sister and I decided we wanted to start a Mexican wave and soon enough other people in our little seat section caught on and it took like a good 10 minutes but we eventually got the entire stadium to do the mexican wave before the concert began and it was CRAZY!! Seeing so many people do it at once is something I'll probably never see again and it felt so special being a part of it
- My boyfriend is much more spontaneous than me and brings me on random walks and adventures. He also always says "don't forget to look up" and I really appreciate that because so often we're stuck in our heads and worries or looking down at our phones, and every time I do look up, I see the beauty of the sky or the sun shining through bright green leaves and it makes me so happy
- Mardi Gras is such a great and colourful celebration and I love all the love that is so evident in the crowds!
- Food can honestly make my day hahaha after a long day, if i come home and get to have a nice meal, my mood is lifted
- Laughter is contagious!! I love it!
- hahaha i also love when an album drops. I'm a taylor swift fan and I love her new album
same here hahahaha Sunsets are much better for me

Aw thank you @Sophia-RO
IKR! Same here! It's nice to just be in the moment with a nice warm drink in hand and with someone you love
- My mates, I like playing games with them, talking to them, and showing them funny videos.
- Sportscars, they're always so beautiful and sexy.
- Phones, my phones are like children to me.
- My hair, I love doing my hair and experimenting with it.
- Makeup, I love being able to put on makeup, for any reason.
- Music, a world without music would be dull, very dull.
- Sewing, I love making my own clothes.
- Knight Rider; one word - KITT.
- That'll Teach 'Em, it's really funny, all the teachers say the darndest things.
@PhoneMomma You're so talented!! You can make your own clothes!!!
Gosh I'd love to be able to do that hahahaha the last time I knitted anything was a scarf (coz it's easy), but I never really finished it so now it's just a non-functioning kinda long rectangle
@ayrc_1904 I just have to say how much I love this thread! Such a lovely reminder to remember the things that make our hearts sing
- I love how smells can transport me back through time - I have some gardenias in pots that are finally flowering, and the smell takes me right back to visiting my Nanna's house as a kid and all of the amazing memories we had with her
- I love seeing new things and exploring new places, I've been spending some time planning some trips for later in the year, and even if they may not happen when I hope, it's filling me with excitement thinking about all of the things I'd love to see
- I love reading a new book that takes me to a totally different place
- I love randomly chatting to people at bus stops /in cafes
- I love spending time in the garden, getting my hands dirty and eating food that we have grown. It also fills me with so much appreciation for our farmers when I see how long it takes us to grow a handful of carrots lol
- I love hearing a piece of music that I loved years ago and still remembering every mood and I how I felt back then
@Janine-RO Aww, I'm glad this thread makes your heart sing!
Those are such deeply thought-of things that you love in this world! Yes -something about smells transporting you through time is such a truth. And I love that you randomly chat to people at bus stops and things! I look in the train and bus time to time and I think about how sad it kinda is that everyone is face down looking at their phones when we could be having lively conversation and maybe even making new friends!
Is it weird that I have an urge to burst into a happy song sometimes on the train just to see peoples' reactions and get people smiling and laughing together rather than just being on phones
What music do you like? I listen to so many genres ranging from classical and romantic to indie pop haha
@ayrc_1904 hahaha I love the idea of randomly bursting into song on public transport, you're so right! There's something a bit bizarre about so many humans in the same place , barely interacting because we're so buried in our phones.
It reminded me of this video- a carriage of people singing somewhere over the rainbow together on a cold monday morning. so pure and lovely!
I love pretty much all music! I studied and played classical music originally (violin and classical saxophone), love some indie pop too, folk, disco, lots of other artists I wouldn't know how to classify really! Live music especially brings me so much joy, some of my best memories are seeing artists I love
@Janine-RO Omg that was the most heartwarming video ever!! I would so so so love it if someone came into my train carriage and did that!! Just a small dose of early morning joy
Wow!! I love both violin and saxophone so much! I play the cello and have done so for like 12 years now and I still love it although I don't take it as seriously as I used to I love the warm rich and mellow sound of it and it makes me very happy.
Same with me though- I love so many different types of music. I think I just love music in general- before covid, I played christmas songs at nursing homes with my family every year to bring people some joy since they often can't see their families much, don't have family, or are too sick to go celebrate with loved ones. I seriously think music can heal! I love when the elderly get up and dance or sing along to the songs I play
Not so much 'in this world' anymore... but did anyone see the Mars rover landing today? I set an alarm on my phone to wake up early so I could watch it live, haha.
It makes me so happy, the lengths humans will go for for more knowledge. Seeing images that no one else has ever seen before because they are taken ON A DIFFERENT PLANET! The relief and the joy of all the NASA workers in the room hugging and cheering when it was confirmed on the surface and millions watching online, all united as one...

Here's some images from another Mars rover, Curiosity:
I really liked how much they do to inspire younger generations, too. Perseverance and it's helicopter were named by a contest for school children. The future scientists that may invent and design amazing things may not even be born yet. It's really inspiring and is something that gives me so much hope in this often bleak world.
@clarii3105 delayed reply haha but geocaching is pretty much like a worldwide treasure hunt! If you join up you can see places/ coordinates that have something to find, there's usually clues. They can be very tricky, I found a small one the other day that someone hid in a pinecone! Sometimes all you have to do is sign the logbook inside (a little 'I was here!') but some are big enough to have small swaps, I like to put in little plastic animals haha. Most of all it really gets you to look at things you wouldn't normally notice as you search for it (I've found many evilly disguised as other things lol), I've found so many little areas in my home town I've lived in all my life I would never have realized was there if I wasn't looking!
I love:
- the big fluffy bumblebees they have in new Zealand
- the smell of rain
- animals being best friends
- cool breezes
- the sound of waterfalls and rivers
- huge trees
- sitting watching birds or other animals just living their lives.
@Eden1717 Nature is splendid- something about just being in complete stillness in the woods or near the ocean and hearing sounds of nature with the wind in your hair... aahhh
New Zealandddd omggg- I went once and I've been wanting to go back so badly! The grass is such an undescribable green there like it's out of a painting or movie or something!! It just made me so happy
Reading through this thread genuinely made my day it made me so happy and unlocked so many happy memories. I think this may be my favourite thread.
Things I love:
- When someone gives you a really tight hug and hugs you for a really long time
- The sound of the crash of the waves on the shore (just the beach in general really)
- First thing in the morning when the sun comes through sheer curtains and it's really sunny and sparkly
- When you notice something new on a street you've walked down a thousand times
- When you get into bed at night and it's just the perfect temperature
- When you listen to a song loud through headphones
I love the ocean so much- Definitely agree with you on the sound of waves crashing! It's strange isn't it! The ocean/water is such a powerful thing, and yet, there's something so calming and tranquil about it @celestialdreamer
I love this thread so so much! So wholesome, I might have to pop in here often. Here's some I can think of:
1. Listening to someone talk about something they're passionate about.
2. Learning something new and finally 'getting it' after trying again and again.
3. People expressing their love for their siblings.
4. People expressing their love for their friends.
5. People expressing their love in general .
6. Someone showing they thought of you in small ways e.g. sending you a meme or a picture that reminded them of you.
7. Pride and people being themselves openly, and celebrating themselves.
8. Older LGBT+ people sharing their experiences and looking at younger generations with hope.
9. People from different walks in life/ having different experiences managing to stand together in solidarity for something important to them both.
10. The feeling of reading the last sentence of a book, putting it down, and not knowing what to do or read next while you think about that little world for a while.
11. Sitting at an airport wondering where everyone else is going, knowing you're all on different journeys yet you're sharing the experience of going on some kind of journey.
12. Going on a roadtrip and listening to music really loud in the middle of nowhere, stopping at the side of the road to take a picture (recently I've also been into geocaching! So fun).
13. Seeing stars at night and being overwhelmed how big the galaxy is.
14. Looking at the moon and knowing it's the same moon everyone in history has looked up at.
15. When a whole group of people can't stop laughing at something, and the moment they stop laughing something reminds them of the funny thing and they can't stop again.
@Anzelmo yesss the Pokemon Go summer
@Hozzles what's geocaching like? I've heard of it but I don't really know what it is!
what a beautiful thread idea @ayrc_1904 for me:
- I love the taste of nice, crisp, fresh fruit
- I love hugs & cuddles
- I love people's eyes (I find it fascinating how everyone's eyes are a unique mix of colours and patterns)
- I love nature, especially forests & oceans
- I love when you discover a snack in the pantry you forgot was there
@clarii3105 I love all those things too - especially the snack one
I love seeing how this thread has grown! Affirming things like this is a lovely way to self-care!
So agree! I seem to keep coming back to this thread whenever I feel a little down because it just reminds me of the things that I love and it really warms my heart
What a wholesome thread @ayrc_1904. 🙂
One of the things I like is the everyday kindness of strangers. For example, when they see me trying to get to a lift and they press the button to hold the door open, even when I haven't even reached the door.
It's the little things that matter! I love it too- little reminders that humanity is beautiful @WheresMySquishy
