Letting the negative self talk go
Yesterday I wrote a post saying how I struggle with saying a lot of negative things to myself and I got a lot of helpful suggestions.
Sometimes challenging my inner bully can be almost impossible, especially in the moment when i'm angry or upset at myself. But there is alternative, recognising that the inner bully is there and giving myself space to recognise it, accept and let it pass.
Have a look at this link where @Kaz-RO explains a bit more of the process.
@Ben-RO suggested that I make a thread so that a few us can work on this together, I know that I find doing things with other people a lot easier.
Hopefully some of you want to work on this too and we'll use this thread to talk about how we're all going with it and post some updates!
Pretty stressed too @FootyFan26 busy day with a lot of things going on and i kind of just want to keep working (but i won't because i look after myself!)
Interestingly, while i still have a lot to think about, it feels a bit more in perspective. Instead of being like "whoa so many things to think through I'm now like "okay what's the next step?".
Something to remember is that mindfulness practice takes a little while to build up impact. So like the more you do it, the longer it's effect will last and the more you will just be able to pull back and be mindful whenever you want (not just when you're sitting down with your eyes closed with an app running to help).
Is it something you want to keep trying? I am really happy it helped a little bit!
I found it really good @Creativegirl12! I listened to Little Wing By Jimmy Hendrix. I am at home and have fancy studio monitors so i sat right between them and focussed on the imaging - like where the sounds are coming from- kind of... I noticed that the glockenspiel in the song is really central, and that his guitar is very stereo with different chords and tones coming through the right and left at different times. I also noticed that the drum recording is like a bit more grainy than the rest of the music, like it was played from a record almost. Also i noticed that my left ear is blocked and that made it hard to hear all the details !
I found it really hard at first to notice anything new, I've listened to that song a bajillion times. But i kind of started really paying attention and forgot where i was after a bit and then it became easy. It was much easier to stop getting carried away by thoughts when i was focussing on music rather than my breathing!
Oh paramore are great @Creativegirl12! That's interesting that you noticed emotions, i didn't!
ok so i havent really done it yet because i just walked in the door, my phone just died, and I realised I've lost something important... but anyway, I opened up my laptop to type this and this random horse video with magestical music that my sister was watching when I visited this afternoon started playing.
So I haven't done it. maybe tonight or whenever my phones decides to be unflat.
we'll start at 5:30 again if there is anybody out there who hasn't had a go yet and would like to pick one??
I'm here 🙂
Aaaanyone else @ma30n @FootyFan26 @N1ghtW1ng @Creativegirl12 @redhead ?
