Live GR: All Things Music! 15th June 7:30 pm AEST

Hey everyone!

This upcoming Monday we've got a chill and fun live chat to do with All things Music! 🙂

Whether you're into musicals, bands, or even play an instrument yourself - music is something that lots of us are super passionate about! 😄

It's also a really good way of expressing yourself and doing some self-care Heart Honestly, it seems like there's a song that fits every mood, from happy to angry and back again!

(Does anyone else remember this movie? ^ School of Rock came out in 2003! Smiley Surprised

RO actually has some suggestions on How to use music for mental health here

For anyone who hasn't been on this side of the forums before, 'Getting Reals' are chats where we post a bunch of questions to do with a certain topic and discuss them together 🙂 These topics range from being pretty heavy to being more lighthearted and fun like this one! It's a really nice space to share interests and experiences and we'd love to see you all then! 😄 Heart

(I'll leave you all with some spinning cats, because we deserve nice things :P)

ekkkkk one of these days I will take Mondays evenings off work and join!
'til then tho....

What sort of music do you like? (Either to listen to or create)

Lorde, Rex Orange County, study lo-fi, and Beyonce...I don't really pay attention to artists, I just like specific vibes

Do you have a favourite song or artist?

My OG Queen B

In what circumstances do you usually listen to or make music?

Mainly when I study or doing random things

Have you ever learnt to play a musical instrument? How did you find the experience?

Nope, sadly never.

5. Do any songs have a particularly strong personal meaning to you?

Any of the Beyonce Lemonade album, tbh

How has music impacted your life?

It has articulated whatever I was going through when I couldn't

How can music play into mental health?

It provides a distraction, a discourse for feelings, a place for validating

How do you think music can or does impact the world?

It can raise awareness about issues, break down stigma, tell people that they really aren't the only one.

Have you come across any awesome online performances recently that you'd like to share?

Bit hard to find the full version but this is badass/great for workouts!

@Hozzles  I like listening to dancepop and Europop too! They're really great when you want to exercise or want to listen to something that will put you in a good mood.
I listen to a lot of Nightcore songs because a lot of them are dance remixes of popular songs.

Do you have a favourite song or artist?

Okay... I used to be (and still am to an extent) really possessive/secretive about my favourite music. I have been for other stuff but music was the strongest. I don't know why! I've always been so afraid someone would insult something that I held so close to my soul... again, sounds really pretentious. Smiley LOL

Favourite artists right now: Marina (and the Diamonds), Lady Gaga, Grimes, Studio Killers, Alter Bridge, Gorillaz, Fall Out Boy... I'm sure I'm missing some. Again, I listen to a lot so it's hard. Smiley LOL I can also count Taylor Swift: I don't really listen to her music much (apart from a few songs) but I admire her sooo much as a person!!

Not really sure about favourite song... probably 'Cry of Achilles' by Alter Bridge, I listened to it in the car literally every. single. day. before school for a year and I'm still not sick of it. (When Mum picked me up she also had Lady Gaga's Artpop album playing every time, and I'm still not sick of that either. Smiley LOL). Spotify says my top listened to song last year was 'Kill V Maim' by Grimes. Hmmmm... Smiley LOL

@Hozzles  My mum introduced me to some of Lady Gaga's music too! She got me her Born this Way album when I was younger and I couldn't stop listening to it.

2. I tend to listen to music when I’m cleaning, sad, or travelling. I will eventually start singing at my church, when we can finally meet again. And my youth group. 🙂

In what circumstances do you usually listen to or make music?

A lot? Haha, when I'm bored or just feel like listening to music, or when I'm doing something else and want to distract myself (from studying, to tedious housework). I have so many playlists of songs that reminds me of stories I want to write, or even just playlists of songs that are 'my theme songs'. My mum literally plays the radio as soon as she wakes up at 6am haha, and sometimes she plays two songs at once (one on the radio and one on the music channel!). It's so quiet without music!

I don't really have a favourite song or artist, but when I was younger (I think I was 12), I sent Idina Menzel fanmail. Though, I only got to her automated message (it was nice though). Smiley LOL This was way before she voiced Elsa in Frozen. I also used to like Nikki Webster's songs when I was about five and got her autograph at a concert. Smiley Tongue
We've been to Ariana Grande's, Taylor Swift's and Adele's concerts. Taylor Swift's last concert in Australia and Adele's concert were some of the best concerts we've ever been too! 🙂

1. Not really, But the ones I’ve been listening to lately have been Alan Walker, Beyoncé, Powfu, Tones and I, Clean Bandit, and Zara Larson. Plus a few more, but I can’t remember them.

I haven’t ever been to a concert before, but I hope to one day meet some of my favourite artists. Especially Tones and I, because I want to show her my singing talent. I somehow know how to make my voice match hers... 😄

Welcome back!
